Its just hype. Find an error, give it a fancy name and a whole lot of hype, and you might be able to make suckers and fools out of people on Ebay. And its not a DDR. Its not a major error. Its only barely interesting. Its a common die crack.
No, it is the result of normal wear and tear on the die and is within exceptable parameters for the mint. Some people forget that the mint's purpose is to produce quantity not quality and many of these type things are acceptable. Richard
There was a recent post on here about what is an error a well known expert stated he considers die cracks, die chips, die gouges ,etc etc all errors . His explaination was I DO CONSIDER THEM ERRORS BECAUSE THEY DON'T BELONG THERE of course it's a matter of opinion that's what the coin world is all about opinonated. I'm one that happens to agree with him. I would say the die crack is an exstreme one that's why they are calling it an error JC Joe
'new lincoln ddr discovered, bootstrap ' Not a DDr, a silly die crack. A nice one, but not headline news!
Bootstrap They claim that all of the errors studied so far are the same, no gradual degrading as in a standard die crack. Since the crack might be the result of a new die, every coin struck with this die will be the same. Thus creating a variety, not die crack errors that create unique coins with each strike.
........i'm sure this would be very exciting for a new young collector. as far as others, well, it's your choice. if it interests you then that's good, if not then you move on to something that DOES! I REPORT, YOU DECIDE! (big tongue in cheek) inserted here.
LOL - yep. Something young collectors, without cash, can search for, find and enjoy until their hearts are content. Sometimes just the hunt can be interesting and fun.
They also state that the sample base of 300 coins is too small to determine if there is any deterioration. Even a crack that exists on the first coin will eventially deteriorate over the course of its life. It would have to as it is damage to the die and repeated striking will eventually increase the damage. The article is hype to get the interest flowing on this coin so they can sell it to people who don't know better. the price will go up but eventually it will go back down. This is the same strategy used in the 50;s and 60's to sell "BIE" die chips as major errors. most of them you can't give away today. Richard
