Noticed on an 1885 O Morgan Doubling at the "E" and "P" of the motto on the obverse. I will post pictures soon.
I was wondering if it would be to hard to wait to post until you had the pictures? Just can't handle the suspense.
Picture The doubling is very slight and only on a small section of the coin. Using a scanner was nearly impossible. I circled the two areas where the doubling is. To the left of the loop in the P is a weaker loop. On the E, there is doubling on the far left of the letter which shows doubling along the entire left side. The two white glares on the photo at the locations previously mentioned is the doubling. I hope the letters below will also be able to help. The dark gray is the letter while the light gray is the doubling.
Looks like machine doubling, not doubled die.. Here's info on other types of doubling. http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/OtherFormsOfDoubling.htm And Welcome to the forum.
Now how could you make out the doubling with those pics? I would suggest the op post some better pics for us to determine this, JC
My sentiments exactly! Hopefully the OP can provide some in-focus closeups of the "E" and "P" as well as the Stars to the left and "LURIBUS". Only then, can we possibly make a remotely viable assessment of the doubling! Frank
JC: You can't. But look at the the image for the EP that the poster added, with the apparent doubling shaded in gray.
Are you kidding how could you go by a cartoon it;s hard enough to tell through photos now cartoons Nah. Well lets see now,the grey images look raised and extra thickness on the P could it be a doubled die class 6,no maybe die deterioration doubling hard to tell.hya:You really can't tell by this Treashunt honest. Please OP post better pics if you want to know for sure. JC
Clearer would be nice, however you've provided enough information for the experienced to tell you what you have.
If you rely on a cartoon Op ,you will not get an accurate determination on your coin and any experianced coin collector will say the same thing as huntsman said also I know it may be differcult to post new pics, but an experiance person only wants to see the true images on a coin I would say most likely you probably have Machine doubling, but you never know try and post better pics if you can I only want to try and give you an accurate conclusion on your coin .I would say most likely you probably have Machine doubling, but you nerver know ,Thanks Joe
I cant be sure what kind of doubling it is, but what I can say is there are no VAMs for the 1885O that involve doubling on the E or P.
I would have to disagree. There is no way I would make any kind of diagnosis based on the pictures provided, and you can't tell if the drawing accurately matches what is really on the coin. I'm experienced enough to know that there isn't enough information yet.
