went to the bank to pick up my box of half dollars, and they had $92 worth of Ike's that someone had turned in. Knowing nothing about Ike's any key dates I should be looking for? a quick look thru them produced a 1971s. Anyone have some advice? Hal
1972 had 3 types of reverses. The type 2 is considered the key in the set. So, I would check for those. Here is a good guide: http://www.supercoin.com/iketypes/
Well i doubt if youn get any silver ones out of it, but if you do look for1966 doubled obverse die look for the no FG intials for the 82 date not silver. The main one to look for is the king of the Ikes is the one mention was 1972 type 2 no Islands on the reverse of the world big bucks if you could come acrosss that one Look for a good 1972 with high relief there hard to find and in at least MS 63 Look for good toned coins they are worth a bit. There are quite a few doubled dies to look for too Good luck in your search and let use know what you find and post them. JC
Circulated examples aren't worth big bucks, but there is certainly a collectible demand for them. It would depend on the condition...but a nice uncirculated example is worth a couple hundred dollars. For a typical circulated example, you might get $15 or $20. Who knows.
Well if the type 2 is a high relief coin even in XF condition you really may get a nice dollar for it because they are sought after by many collectors since they are the king of the IKE series JC
Every once in awhile I watch certain complete sets of coins on Ebay by just putting them in my "watch list" to see what they sell for. I did this on the Ike Dollars about a month or so ago. What I saw were several nice 32 coin sets in albums going for $220.00 to $240.00 on average plus S & H. Of course the reason I do this is Ike Dollars is one of the complete sets I have. I like them and I know a good number of people think they will eventually become more collectable and higher in price, but I doubt much beyond a very low increase each year. I personally think this is great to have a big beautiful set of coins that have coins minted for circulation, varieties, clad proofs, and silver proofs that is very affordable.
You're right. JC just have a few too many drinks tonight! The 71S that you mentioned is a silver clad.... right Hobo. So that is a keeper. The question is whether or not it is a proof or unc. As for circulated IKEs, probably not much value unless you do find the 72T2 or 72T3. The T2 will be the key. There are many exciting die clashes that can be found while searching. Try this site here for more info.... http://www.ikegroup.org/ Also, I found a bunch of these. They are typically found on the 71 Ikes....very easy to spot and always very exciting to find one..... Good luck
Thanks CamaroDMD & Jaceravone, the sites you listed are great sources of information.. I will be going over the coins tonight and tomorrow evening. Will posts results of my searching when i get done. Hal
