While at my favorite coin shop today, I came across this 1944 war nickel, and had to add it to my error collection. It has a planchet flaw, running from the 6 o'clock position, to the 9:30 position. It also has a small die crack running down and to the left from the top of the flaw, to the rim.
Looks like a lamination error to me. And if that's a die crack it could have turned into a cud later in the die's life.
The war nickels had many lamination errors.I have a nice collection of them to go with my 67 full steps collection
Yes, a lamination error would be a more appropriate description. I have never before seen (first hand) an example that was this obvious. For $.50, I couldn't pass it up.
I first found war nickel errors. Then I had to have the 11 coin ms 67 full step collection.I have a nice 44 that is a split planchet. You can barely make out the obverse side of it and the reverse is beautiful with 5 steps. That's always been one of my favorites in my war nickel error collection
