Major question!!!!!

I recently aquired a large amount of CENTS...a $175.00 to be exact.....my question is this ....what should I do with them....SELL them in rolls or individual.....they are in original mint roll.....unc....hmmmm.....any thoughts or opinions would be great....I will mail the person who gives me the best idea of what I should do, a roll of my choice.....there are many dates.....also I have about 20 dollars worth of 1974 original unc rolls...should I open and look for the elusive or just sell the rolls un-searched.....I mean I got alot....Should I keep them .....hmmmmm????????? :crying:

Not to long ago I got $184 (368 rolls) worth of non bank rolls of memorial pennies from an uncle who was rolling his penny change since the early 70's. I searched every roll and picked out the BU ones and the semi-key dates. It was weeks of fun for me to come home and sit down at my kitchen table and search through a couple rolls. In your case, being that some are bank rolls you might not want to open those as to not devalue them to a roll searcher who may pay a good price, as for the tubes, search away, it's a good learning experience and fun.

 

Sell them rolled 'as is' in auctions. I can only imagine how much you will make off those 'as is' based on my experience listing rolls that I hand rolled from circulation coins I gathered then listed on eBay. Sell! Sell! Sell! Purging that much mass of stuff will feel relieving too! (of course, do your research into values first and if you think you have some gems that you want for your collection hold onto them and sell the others.)

 

Any in bank rolls that look UNC, I would sell as is. However, I would first open one of the rolls and take pics so that the buyer can see how prestine your coins are. With the ones in tubes, absolutely seach them and have a good time. Then, sell one or two individually to see what type of premium you get. Any key or semi key sell individually. Of course, keep some for your own collection.Selling BU rolls from back then, with an added moniker that there perhaps might be an error/variety in these unopened rolls, would fetch you quite a price.Or, sell them at face to me to get rid of the headache.....

 

It looks like a good amount of your coin tubes are already searched, dated and likely will not yield anything unexpected/surprizing. With that search work done, I'd suggest finding a way to sell them because 'roll searchers' also wouldn't have much fun searching those presorted tubed rolls either.

For an example of one premium I've realised, on a dozen rolls of wheat-only circulated cents listed in auction at face value, $6 returned $36. 600 coins, avg. 6¢/ea. I felt decently compensated. Be sure to research shipping options as large lots of rolls are heavy, hence costly to ship.

 

Search

I would search every one of them!!! I think you only liveonce...and have as much fun with it while you can. My father passed last year, and I had to leave approx. the same amount you are showing behind in California. I had a friend sell them for 2 cents apiece..and all the other coins too. I couldn't find a place to ship them back home. :crying: You only live once!!!

I agree with bobbeth. Sell the common, later dates that you have a lot of like the 1974's in groups of 4 or 5 at a time because you will spend hours preparing them for shipping roll by roll. Make sure you know your shipping costs ahead of time and figure accordingly. Hype them up as much as you can, such as 1983 possible DDR or 1998,99,00 possible WAM, also be prepared to leap off the nearest bridge, when someone emails you to tell you they found 3 1992 D close AM's in one of your rolls!!! :goof:

 

I went through 300+ rolls that were'nt bank wraps and found (2) 70-S Small Dates, a handful of 60-P Small Dates and various others. It's fun to search for the elusive, especially with pennies. :whistle:

 

If you have any rolls of 69-S, the potential for that DDO might net you a nice profit. :bigeyes:

 

forgot to mention...the dates are from 1909 to 1979...everything in between...I took out the 09S's and 09S vdb's, the 14D, and the was only one 22without in very rought condition....I have been a collector since the early eighties......I just never had this situation happen to me.....as a collector I wanna keep them all and go thru....the coins in tubes I will go thru...what I did so far ...I am excited ....very pristine sharp blazing red....but thanks to all so far for your help....

 

First, take out what you want as a collector, then sell the rest. I would avoid feeBay as much as possible and try to sell using this forum (or another forum) to keep from getting smashed with fees.

 

Thats an awfully nice looking hoard of copper you got there and I know I would have a hard time resisting ripping into the bank rolls,but unless I needed the money I would store them in a cool dry place and come back in about 20 years and then reevaluate the situation.

 

So you found MULTIPLE '09-S VDBs??? How many did you find?

 

If these were my coins I would store all the bank wrapped coins in a safe deposit box. Anything else I would cherry pick for myself and dump the rest.

 

Incidently, the coin wraps in the red bowl appear to be re-wraps. If that is the case I would dump these, as is, also. Make sure you check the bank rolls for signs of tampering.

 

Well, it's a roll collection....he must have a roll of 09-S, 09-S VDB and 14-D.

Only a few....in a tube marked mix....weird system this person had....and the ones in the tubes are a by date but not seperated by mint marks....alot of looking in the next few weeks for me....:mouth:

Sorry for confusion....as I stated earlier...this guy system of keeping in tubes was very different than I ever imagined......The other post was when I looked at the first coin in tubes......sorry was excited when I first got them....
