As you know Finland was a Russian posession from 1809 until 1917.

Have you, as a coin collector, ever wondered what the last coins of Russia-Finland looked like versus those 1917 coins of independent Finland?

Well, because of Don's,owner of Don's World Coin Gallery, courtesy, here are photos of some of the coins.

Here's photos of the two different 5 Pennia coins:

    http://worldcoingallery.com/countri...land km17 5 Pennia (1917)&query=Finland km 17

And, a bonus for you, the 1918 5 Pennia with changed text:

Here's photos of the 10 Pennia coins (note the circles):

    http://worldcoingallery.com/countri...and km18 10 Pennia (1917)&query=Finland km 18

    No 10 Pennia was struck in 1918, but here's a photo of a 1920 (1919-1940):

Here are photos of the 50 Pennia:

    http://worldcoingallery.com/countri...and km20 50 Pennia (1917)&query=Finland km 20

    Here's a bonus photo of a 50 Pennia after 1917 (no 50 Pennias minted in 1918, 1919 or 1920):

Russia Finland One Markka coins were struck from 1864-1915:

Independent Finland first minted One Markka coins in 1921 (1921-1924):

Very interesting! Just by looking at them you can tell they're Russian (well, that double eagle/dragon thing helps too).
