Went to the Baltimore show last week and picked up several Jefferson Nickel RPM's and this Ike. Any thoughts?

I have a toned one like that coming in the mail (should be here already). I'll post it up when I get it.

I'm on the border on how this one toned, I have seen some baked coins with similar toning but the colors are usually a little brighter. This one has a darker more even toning like maybe it was in an envelope for many years.

I don't think this is natural toning it could have been tamperd with the colors just don't have that natural look to them the way they are present on the coin.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

It doesn't look natural to me, but either way I don't care for it.

I think the toning is ugly, JMO.
But if you like it that is all that matters :)

I would guess the coin got the toning from one of those old hard plastic display holders folks used to use. They were about 2"x3" and had a cardboard insert to hold the coin. Some used a foam insert.
I have several with that look that were removed from those holders.
    This is one.

Is your coin also toned on the reverse as well? Your coin has that natural look the way the colors are disbursed on the fields The OP's coin just doesn't have that look the colorslook unatural to me with some odd toning.

Thats OK! I wasn't really into toned coins until an I started seeing toned coins posted here on CT. For $3 I couldn't pass this one.
I'm thinking of self-slabbing it MS70 (I mean Perfect Uncirculated) Monster Toned, and selling it on ebay for $24,000,000.00! LOL

Many times when I see ikes like this, they have usually been cleaned/dipped and the residue that is left behind from the chemical usually contributes to the toning of the coin. What tips this off to me that this possibly could be the result of some kind of residue is look at the reverse of the IKE. See how the coloring is kinda blochy in areas? I have a set of IKEs in PCGS slabs that are exhibiting this type of pattern. Unfortuatately, my toning is extremely ugly and I am quite upset. I called PCGS to see what their response was and what I wrote above was one of the possible reasons they gave me for this. Although I don't collect toned coins, I think this Ike looks very nice. Whether or not it was NT or AT, the coin is still very nice looking.
