I always see people CRHing for West Point quarters... Why are they so special? They made a ton of them and from what I know they are clad... What makes them so desirable? and are they clad or silver?
Only two million are minted for each type yes they are clad and silver ones s mint proofs They sell for around $5-$20.
Because they are rarer than non-W quarters. For every W quarter that was minted in 2020 there were 244 non-W quarters (2,443,600,000/10,000,000). W's are the rarest coin you could realistically expect to find while CRHing.
As stated, there are only 2 million of each design made. They are put in circulation, none are sold by the mint to collectors. They can only be found by searching circulated rolls. They are clad. And I believe it is the only circulation coin made by the West Pont Mint. All other W coins are only available through the mint, and not intended for circulation. The only years they were done are 2019 and 2020. There will not be any in 2021.
They are clad. just 2 million of each design available. The silver value of a quarter found roll hunting is somewhere around $5.00, so finding a W is worth at least that, so it's a lot like finding a silver quarter roll hunting.... or better actually. And American Memorial Park ungraded regularly sells on Ebay between $30-$40 each on an auction, no idea why they are still that high, there's 46 listings and MS66 graded sells for around $80-$100. Maybe only 5-8 ungraded being sold a day on there tops or something to where they keep up the competition on them. the others from 2019 are like $10-$12 each. probably something like this will appear with the 2020W coins where one for whatever the reason is more scarce than the others. maybe the Marsh Billings one. Mostly it's something else to look for while roll hunting that's an easy $5-$10-$20 bill on the secondary market.
They were released in random rolls l along with P,s and D,s in small quantities ,that in itself was a first , also no NIFC sales,
That sounds like alot ,but compared to total amount released that year, not really, pretty sure they are intended to be collectable
I actually have found 2 but I run a cash register every day, only reason, well I'm always looking too
