I posted this previously, but didn't catch the close AM before...what a hoot...and wouldn't it be like the coolest if this were made of aluminum? lol oh, and look beside the memorial...is that a D mintmark?
Weight? Do you have a scale to check the weight? Is it a casting from a minature sand mold? Does it have entrance & exit spots on the rim where the metal was poured?
It does kinda look like a sand mold.... I will check the weight soon...there is a coin guy down the street, and I will see what he says...
At least keep us informed as to what you find out about that thing. If made by someone I wonder just how much time and effort it took to make a cent.
Now here's an aluminium 1974 cent looks like aluminum foil. What not a D just a distorted FG initials from serious wear on this coin and plating problems as well. JC
Ok, I went to the coin guy today,...he said that it was dipped in acid, and it weighed 3 gr. The blank date penny I had weighs 2.5 grams...hmmm Thanks for the welcome, I enjoy the input and everyone has been really nice.
Redbook Hi, the Redbook lists the copper cents from 1959-1982 as 3.11 grams. The 1982 & later zinc cents are listed at 2.5 grams.
Something either happened to that coin outside the mint, or its the product of very old dies. That's my take from the picture.
