In your opinion, what 5 regular issue U.S. coins would you love to own and why?

Well if we are dreaming here, and had an unlimited source of funds, and all the coins we wanted actually EXISTED, then here is my list..

    1895 Proof Morgan PF70
    1911 D $2.5 MS70
That monster toned indian head penny that Lehigh has!
    Oregon Trail Half Dollar MS70
The SIXTH V Nickel, of 1913 in PF70

That is my list, and it will be impossible to acquire for any collector, because those coins are not that well preserved, I believe that there are MS66 or MS67 of the quarter eagles but nothing higher, the V Nickels of 1913, the highest is a 65 or 66, and have no clue on the oregon trail commemorative, probably a 68 I would think. And no matter what the grade on the slab says for lehigh's toner, that indian head penny is PERFECT! LOL

I picked these coins because they are some of my favorites... Love the morgans, love the indian head pennies, oregon trail half, anything else with a native american or buffalo on the coin, and of course love those liberty nickels! ;)

But the thing is, I always give an answer on these unlimited funds, wish lists, because it will never be consistent, for me anyway.
I think what makes this hobby so great, is that you always have a dream, a goal, or something to reach for!

I really enjoy my Barber series coins.

Of course i can dream about PF67-68 barbers but in reality I would love to complete my VG-F Barber half series.. And I'm well on my way to completing it.

so #'s 1-5 would be the 5 key dates that I still need :high5:

Top 5 in my gold "...dreaming... unlimited source of funds... " list:

    • $20 High Relief St. Gaudens
    • $10 Eagle / Indian Head
    • $5 Gold Piece Indian head
    • $2.5 Gold Piece Indian head
    • 1926 $2.5 Gold Sesquicentennial Commemorative

Why: Aesthetic beauty and the essence about these designs recalling a nostaglic era of American history

Of course, there are loads of other magnificent designs that I in no way would forget about just because I chose to dream from my gold list first.

A top 5 silver coin list would cite *high grading*: Standing Liberty Quarters, Walking Halves, Morgan and Peace Dollars, and that '16D Mercury. =)

To me, Indian cents are the most beautifully crafted coins designed with such fantastic detail and struck on the prettiest and most gorgeously tone-prone metal composition ever!

    • The Sunnywood 1881-S Morgan Dollar PCGS MS68: If I have to explain why then you guys don't know me very well.

    • Panama-Pacific $50 Gold Commemorative Octagonal MS65+: This is probably one of the coolest coins on the planet. Ultra rare in gem (population 18) with stunning design elements. If only I had $100K to spare.
    [IMG][IMG]

    • 1880 Coiled Hair Stella: Anyone who owns one of these has reached the pinnacle of coin collecting. An incredible rarity with phenomenal beauty. My first goal is just to see one of these in person, then I will worry about obtaining one for my collection:

    • 1792 Disme: While the Half Disme gets all the publicity, her sister is much more attractive and more rare.

    • 1907 St Gaudens Double Eagle UHR PR68: Well, who wouldn't want this coin and at least I didn't go for the PR69.

Well, I would be happy with these:

    - 1809 Dime in XF
    - 1797 or 1796 Half Dime in VF or better
    - 1794 Dollar.......(any grade)
    - 1796 Quarter. F or better
    - 1793 Libert Cap Cent in better than VG

And, if I can add 1 more:

    - Continental Currency Dollar (not strictly a regular issue, but boy do I want one!).

Why on earth would you want that? It is not like you collect toned coins or anything like that...

    LOL! :D

Nice wish list, you've inspired me to add a 6th coin on to mine, or just blow mine up completely! LOL
    I want a flowing hair stella :)

I like Lehigh96's selections, would be very very happy to have even one of them.

I thought 1911-d $2.5 is the most over rated coin, there are over 10000 MS62 or better. Read some where David Bowers think 1/4 of them were save in uncirculated condition.

And 1909S VDB the second most over rated, In the 50's David Bowers bought a least 10 rolls of uncirculated 1909-s VDB from a collector for $500 a roll, and that same collector sold many rolls to other dealer. However I recently bought a 1909- VDB too...

1793 S-1 chain cent Last of the chains cents I need
    1796 S-96 cent
    1801 S-217 cent
1803 S-264 cent These three because they will finish off my draped bust variety set and also complete my early date cent variety set from 1795 to 1814.
Any 1793 Liberty cap cent, because I don't have one.
