This thread was a BAAAAD idea, which is why I chose to ignore it (pun intended). Until now:
You focus on negativity then you get negativity. These trolls feed on this stuff you guys.
I hope they delete the whole thread.
This way folks stop focusing on getting away from each other and start focusing on spending more time understanding each other.
I ignored someone a bit ago due to political differences they posted a while ago. I have since removed that ban.
Further I recommend that everyone remove the ignores that you've done.
If someone that usually creates lame content posts, then I might skip it, or might peruse it, but won't ignore another human being.

I believe I have only ignored one person, and that was because they argued about everything. There is enough conflict in life without it spilling over to our hobby!

 

WOW, I must had missed the Troll. Cool. Looks like they were stripped from the thread when I was not here. That is "stress-less" posting for me!

I reckon there was an "auto-ignore" in place by the Mods.

The troll took the moniker "DonnaFF" and posted f-bomb laced, vituperative diatribes in several threads. I think it was probably someone who had been repeatedly banned and who has a personal vendetta against the folks here.

I find anymore, there is no need to respond to the trolls (bozos). Just hit the "REPORT" button at the bottom of the person's post. Mods will review them. They have instant access to ALL their posts, and can quickly determine the Poster's intentions.

"Ignore" makes you feel good, and "Report" makes them go away!

An SBD approach, and quietly, effectively handled by the Mods, without you caught in the maelstrom that the troll loves to create!

This forum is as close as I get to social media --of which my terror is effectively total. I showed up here with all the advantages and disadvantages of abject naivete.

 

The thing is, it's easy to advise people just to ignore trolls and report them without responding. But this particular troll not only used my first name (despite apparently being a guy), followed by "FF" (no doubt standing for something obscene), but very specifically singled me out for abuse, both misogynistic and ageist in nature (although I'm not as old as he thinks!), with some extremely vulgar aspects. It was upsetting that someone could despise me so much, and it's difficult to say nothing. You can see what I said, which I think was measured in tone, and I was careful not to quote him in my reply. And of course I reported him. But I don't believe in remaining completely silent when I'm attacked. I never have, and never will.

 

There have been occasions when I have logged on «when the US sleeps», and there have been new accounts that have posted personal attacks on posters here, apparently for no reason. (I’ve reported the matter, of course). Well, we all know crooks excist, envy and hate excists, and mental illnesses excist. The great thing is that this board has people communicating in a friendly, constructive manner 99% of the time. We should have our eyes focused on that.

One hugely encouraging thing about this forum is that not only are the overwhelming majority of people consistently polite and considerate; we have a commensurate, consensual appreciation of what we've got here.
...More broadly, it's depressing what's happened to online media since the 1990s. That much of it is reducible /has degenerated to the disproportionate empowerment, if not 'militarization' (sometimes disturbingly literal) of the most ignorant and generally toxic elements of society. The scum rises to the top....

 

Understood. Unfortunately, I missed everything. Sad state of a person whom fills their world with this vile. I suspect the troll just prowled for a target like you. Sadly, that is what only entertainment this sick, empty soul has. They have no other purpose in their measly life but to do this. I regret that you were the target.

Sadly, this behavior is not a human mind, rather basal. I find they are only looking for attention, to illicit responses... whether good or bad, that they feed on to satisfy their stunted minds.

I find the best response, is NOT to pay attention, rather to ignore them, and rob them of ANY satisfaction. They are like a virus: they have no brains, just the need to feed off others.

 

If nothing else, the last few years have been good for rehabilitating several of Freud's central concepts. ...Starting with classic, clinical narcissism. Can't speak for anywhere else, but in the US, it's one more of several 'pandemics.' Thanks in great part to several decades' worth of the low end of our popular culture (remember the '70s being "the Me Generation?" --followed by the '80s, less officially 'the Me, Not You Generation' ...and so forth...), it's now hardwired on a systemic level.
