I cracked and did the oil/rose thorn because I simply didn't like the grime and it was driving me crazy. I wouldn't crack out and risk it to go from a 40 to a 45 (over cousre a 60 to a 65 crack out on any coin would be worth it!). That's the only reason I cracked out. I am confident it will regrade and if it doesn't it's because I will have been inpatient and not waited no long enough for it to tone more normally.

He explained all of that in the original post. Blue ribbon and green rose thorns.

I hate to ask dumb questions twice, guys, the narcissistic logic being it makes me look twice as dumb, but can anybody answer these questions? Thanks.

The older 2x2 envelopes are thought to have a higher sulfur content.
They work well to bring some cleaned coins back to a more normal look.
They can also turn other coins really ugly.

Sorry, eddiespin- I didn't have computer access for a while. I mean the old school ones that are manilla color and have a lot of sulfur. They have a different texture and look than the new ones. Can only get them from old timers that saved them. Wayne Raite (can't remeber how to spell) albums are good and tone coins pretty good as well and I need one if anyone wants to sell me one.

    Boss, it looks good...
But trying on a key date, a little risky...
Have you ever done wrong, or has this little experiment ever just back fired?

Search my 1909 S VDB story. Search my posts and you'll find. That wasn't from this type of treament but from trying to remove verdigris with acetone (impossible). Needed Verdigone and I would have been fine. Read the thread and you'll understand. So have a messed up on a key with this technique. Not really. I won't again mess up a coin. I have this technique honed.

I did not see the 'damage'/dig whatever it is behind the head until it was 'worked on'.
Having said that, I would have left that are alone.
