Attached below are two of my NEWPs. Please guess the grade of the two large cents below. Both are graded by PCGS:

The photos are fairly accurate, although the first coin has more luster than the photos display.

    Have fun....Mike

p.s. for bonus points, attribute them.

That first could well be AU, but I am going to take a shot at 64-BN.

    Second is 63 RB

Again, another SWAG. 1st one is 64 brn, and very very clean from what I can see. 2nd one is 62 rb due to scuffs at 6oclock on the reverse and 12oclock obverse.

I go 63bn and 64rb but what is going on between r and i in america on the first one?

Very nice coins in deed, a pleasure to look at! I think MS64+ BN on the first one - I believe the gorgeous luster and lack of marks helps it to warrant at least that grade. And MS64 RB on the second one, again, good strike and no major marks from what I can tell from the photos.

Getting a lot tougher for me to estimate TPG grades, been that way for a while. But I would grade the 1st AU58 BN, 2nd MS64 RB. Feel fairly confident TPG said same about the second, but would not be surprised if they said 63 BN on the 1st. But I never would.

Mike, please explain to me, how this is toning and not wear, it sure looks like wear to me

Because there's luster underneath (that doesn't show in the photos), and that area has a bit of a weak strike (as evidenced by the weak dentils).

Unfortunately, I blew one of my Reveal bulbs a few weeks ago and as a result took this photo (and the other large cent NEWP photos) with a single light. As a result the luster on this coin (which is unbroken and complete) doesn't show worth a crap.

Incidentally, that's why (I suspect) most people guessed too low on all these coins. Either that, or the CAC and I don't have as good of an eye for these coins as I thought. ;)

Okay - the first coin is nice and I like the color of it best. I am thinking it is 63bn that Doug got correct - because of the weak strike and flatness. The second coin is certainly a nice coin and is a 63RB because of the weakness in stars, top of coronet. And since Doug guess 64rb, I would have to go lower cause of the weakness, carbon spots, hit beneath ribbon.

PS - my first grade would have been 64rb for second coin.

I give. The second id 63 RB, but what is the first? 65BN? I do not think so. It looks very nice for a 62 BN.

Because wear does not occur at the low points. Weak strikes etc. do.

Too good to be true because I Like them!

    A place missed while PhotoShopping?

How do you get such great shots through plastic? Crack? Out?

Coin looks like it was used three times. Made/Modeled/Mounted.

This game is sooooo much like Playboy Mag where the women proclaim,
"I wish I looked like That!" and that from the model in the photo that month.

But hey. Today I am working on the difference between a scanned vs photo'ed MS 70 from SGS.

I don't CARE what the grade is. I WANT IT!!!

.....ere....just to look at, of course.:p
