Wings put a spankin on the Pens last night. They sure showed their nasty side. Ankle slash by Cindy Crosby on Zetterburg, and the slash to the foot of Datsyuk. Both were given with what looked like intent to injure. I think Cindy needs to be put over somebodies knee and reminded that the game is physical but don't try and hurt somebody on purpose away from the play. Makes me wish McCarty would be inserted for one game just to bust a few of the youngin's fannies.

I can understand the frustration they are feeling, hockey is an intense game, but I hope they don't want the game to devolve to that level. Hits against the boards are one thing, using a stick to spear and slash intentionally shows incredible imaturity. As a supposed superstar Crosby embarassed himself, his entire team and their loyal fans. The Pens fans deserve better. Part of going the distance in the NHL as a team leader is character. I hope Crosby is able to live this down.

I didn't see too much of the game guys but if you say it turned into a hackfest at times I believe it.

Crosby has been around long enough to know better. It's that simple. No true fan or player likes to see overly aggressive stick work. Gotta real beef with someone? - drop the gloves and have at it.

The greatness of a game 7. I think it will be a great one I just hope it is not one the officials decide. I do not care if they call every single penalty they see or if they let them play and call nothing at all. But I hope they are consistant. As for the call on Crosby I think it was a penalty but it was also over embelished by Zetterburg. I am sure that the great players often get frustrated in the playoffs because there is an entirely different set of rules as to what is called and what is not called. The playoffs are often like the last few minutes of the third period where the refs just swallow the whistle and anything goes. Regaurdless hoping for a great game 7 with a Pens victory.

Couldn't agree more on the refs. There is too much on the line for everyone to have agressive referees. Keep an eye out for intentional stuff, but let 'em play the game. Good luck to both teams, it's really rare to have a rematch like this year. I think it shows that the NHL is alive and well.

ps: Just learned that the Wings/Penguins Game 7 tomorrow will be the first game 7 held in Detroit since 1955. Wow, that's a long time. That game would have been in the old place, The Olympia. Detroit went many years without even making the playoffs, then with new ownership things turned around. So tomorrow's Game 7 will be the first at the Joe. No way I'll pay the prices being asked for a ticket. It'll be TV for me.

Game 6 was a good one. Osgoode kept Detroit in the game for sure. Pens were physical but I wasn't seeing a lot of dirty hits. As has been said let them play the game.

The Pens penatlties in the third period could have really spelled doom.

This aside the Pens are going to have to play their most disciplined game and knock it up a few notches to have a chance at the Joe. You just can't make mistakes against the Wings.

Gonna be a good game. I hope.

    GO WINGS !!!

I have been to old Olympia on Grand River Ave. Talk about " cozy ", that place was soooo small, you got verdigo in the nosebleeds because the aisles up were so steep.

Right down the street from the Grande Ballroom, where the J. Giels Band recorded " Full House" , one of my favorite all time albums.

Showing your age a bit there Jack? :) Yea, how about the obstructed view seats? A cheap way to see a hockey game!

Congrats to the Penguins. They pulled it off.
They did kick it up a few notches and in Detroit no less.

A real good game I thought.

New to the sport. Have to say Hockey is more than I thought. The fans and noise of the game is exciting, not to mention what’s on the ice. The Pens coming from 2 games down is commendable. Might grow some whiskers next year.

    sigh

    a) time to shave of my own playoff beard

    b) at least I don't look like a Cindy Crosby-type 8th grader.

    Yes, I'm bitter.

Congratulations to the Penguins. They played a full 60 minutes with focus and deserved to win. The Wings didn't get on track until midway into the 3'd period. That's not what a Stanley Cup Champion caliber team should do. Gotta say Detroit earned that loss.

I agree on the officiating. Let em play seemed to be the philosophy, and it worked, we got to see a good game.

Good question on Hossa, he contributed mightily to the regular season in Detroit. It does seem to point out that even an expert player can't predict the future.

Nothing to watch now until camp starts up in September. Two and a half months, that's a long time without hockey :)

So, is there a winner for the beard contest?

ok, I'll be a little more serious.

first, grats, to the dirty, worthless Pens. That said...

Officiating. It was simply Bizarre. I don't think they were calling it for either team specifically, but they were calling it weirdly. When the same penalty happens repeatedly all game, and is suddenly (and quite randomly-seemingly) called in the 3rd? That's just odd.

Maid Marian - You know how superstitious hockey players/fans are. Hossa might have trouble finding a home next year. I don't expect him to be a Wing next year. The Red Wings have proven in the past that they pay for playoff performers, and Hossa was anything but that this season. I think they'll use that cap money to bring up some of their own such as Helm, Ericsson, and possibly Abdelkader. I may be a bit biased, because I think Helm is AWESOME.

Game 7 - The Wings dogged it the first two periods, there's no getting around it. They just didn't look like the team who wanted to, or deserved to win. Congrats again to the dirty, disgusting Penguins.

(Just kidding, I actually moved here to Michigan from Pittsburgh a few years ago, so I like both teams in general, as long as Pittsburgh isn't playing Detroit :) )

Thanks Jack :D We were on the edge of our seat all night - it was a great game. Puck bounced our way and both teams played great!!! My brother-in-law from Travers City will have to wear a penguins shirt on a upcoming family reunion :D The picture of him will go in our family yearly calander so he will be reminded for at least a month who won! :D He had threatened the same to me and my son after game 5 so I am glad to have the opportunity to turn the tables :)
