Hey everybody. I'm new here and searched, but don't really know the forums and didn't come up with anything.

My grandfather travels all over the world, and he always brings me and my father back a few coins and maybe a piece of paper money or two. Never more then 5 pieces from the same country, but my recent count is 37 different types of currencies.

I'd like to find a way to store these, preferably in a 3 ring binder or the like. None of the coins are worth more then their face value (the most expensive I have is a 5 euro bill or a 2 euro coin) so they are not irreplaceable or expensive so protecting them from sun and moisture etc inst a big deal. The problem I am running into is all the ways I see to store them are very expensive and very specific (such as a 30 dollar binder for one type of coin from Israel).

I was wondering if there are any 3-ring binder sheets availiable that are similar to those clear paper covers (similar to http://www.abilityonecatalog.com/imgLg/7510012360059.jpg) but with little boxes (similar to these http://www.lime-office.com.au/img/productImages/colby/286-4fd.jpg) in various shapes and sizes built specifically for coins and bills? Just something so I can look at the front and back of the coins/bills without keeping them in little envelopes.

    Thanks in advance.

EDIT: also, if there is another useful way of storing coins/bills in a similar manor besides the 3 ring method, by all means please let me know.

Try this one, it's for 20 pieces 2x2 coinholders and it's cheap

    Welcome.

There are several plastic pages designed to fit in a 3-ring. They have different size pouches which you can fit different size coin holders. The normal technique is to place the coin or bill into an inert holder and then put the holder into the plastic page. Use the inert coin or currency holder. If you place the coin or paper money directly into the soft plastic 3-ring page, then the soft plastic can cause damage after long term storage. Here is one supplier:

Thanks for the responses! Regarding the cardboard holders. Do these need to be size specific or can I just buy a whole lot of 50 cent holders and put the smaller coins in them?

    Welcome to the forum!

The cardboard gives stiffness and thickness and supports the thin mylar plastic center. If you use the largest size and they are stored in the pages, probably they will be just fine. If they were stuffed in the box, the mylar can be torn and allow damage to the coin.If you are careful, they will protect just fine. With more expensive coins, it is best to get the correct size.

    Hello again jbeck6,

Yes, you can use only one or two 2x2 sizes. Let me add one more detail about using the 2x2 cardboard holders. (Much of my collection is housed in them). After you staple the 2x2, the staples will be protruding on one side. When the 2x2s are placed in the plastic pages, the protruding staples tend to hold them in the plastic pages. However, when the 2x2s are taken out of the plastic pages, those protruding staples can very easily tear the Mylar & scratch the coins in other 2x2 holders. Sooner or later a couple of the 2x2s will be out of the plastic pages and they will scrape together possibly scratching a coin. (Murphy’s Law assures that it will be your favorite coin that receives the scratch). Therefore, I recommend that you flatten the protruding staples with a pair of pliers even though you are storing the 2/2s in plastic pages.

    Very best regards,
