Which bill would you take??

I know everybody has there own opinion about what type of currency you collect. I was just curious if you had a choice of bills and you had to take one which one and why. One bill has a internal repair almost invisible to the eye.Thanks for your opinion.Randy Both notes are the same price

all things being equal to those two notes - price and as we can see grade - i would go for the top note!!

Are the prices similar for both notes?

with the 'net' grade.. its basicly telling you the note is a higher grade, but because of some 'element' not being right, it knocks the grade down. As RickieB said in the other thread, there were some minor repairs. and in my opinion, i wouldnt hold that against my decision to buy the note

I'd really have to see the notes to see how well the internal repair was done, but if it looks as good as it does in the photo, the top one wins hands down.

 

I would go with the bottom. It is centered better and I get the feeling that the top note is the one with the internal repair. I wouldn't want a bill that had been repaired.

 

Well the top note is clearly marked "Internal Repairs"

I don't mind repairs if they are minor (ie, filled pinholes, very small internal tear repaired, etc...). The note still looks much nicer, especially the bright orange back. Don't think the repair detracts nearly as much as the soiling on the other note. If I did buy that top note though, I'd probably cut it out of the folder as that would help me forget that it was repaired.

also a point to consider is what your purpose is!

if you are strictly a collector, then the top note wins. if you are an investor who wishes to someday sell the note, then keep this in mind. The bottom note will holds its value better then the top note. Take a look at the discussion in this thread and how some folks dont care but others really do. So when the top note is re-sold down the road, the value would largely depend on how many folks want it (supply and demand) where the bottom note will have more folks possibly bidding on it.

just a thought - but a thought that wouldnt enter into my decision on which note to buy will it yours?

 

That's true. The reason the bottom note is much more folded yet both are graded VF25 is because the top note is damaged and thus is net graded a VF25. I look at these notes the same way I do with coins. Would you want a coin that is VF25 or a coin that is XF45 details cleaned and thus called a "net VF25." It's all the same thing to me. I want the note that is undamaged.

 

If the first note wasn't a "NET" 25... I'd go with that
I think I would chose the second note.
Yes the first note is more attractive, but the word "NET" send a single to me, that the piece should have graded higher, and didn't due to some damage on the note itself
So you see, the second one is a solid VF25, and a beautiful one too...
I'd go with number two

 

Neither..I would save my $$$ and get a nice XF to AU

I would take the top, hands down, as it has more eye appeal to me. Of course, since it has repairs, if I were an investor, the bottom one is the better choice.

 

The "net" is because the note has been repaired. I agree with you on this one.

 

Kinda like "NET" on a coin, Repaired or we call it cleaned.
So yes, the "NET" could mean damage, IMO it is damage to the value.. LOL!
Yes, I'd go with the second one for sure... But I think I'd pull a rickieb, use the money for the note, and by some scratch offs LOL (Then once I win, I can get one in AU) LOL

 

Yeah, it's just like coins. The top note is clearly in better shape than the bottom but the TPG has chosen a "value" for the damage and graded the note down accordingly. I personally don't like it when companies do this. Here are my thoughts from early in the discussion:

 

If I may, I would like to say a little on this topic from the simplicity of investment and collecting in general.

I have watched many auctions where "repaired notes" have been bought and sold...many of these type of notes are exceedingly rare and examples are very hard to come by. It is ok if you decide to buy a repaired note!

However, keep in mind that buying a readily available repaired note will limit the resale of that note by taking a big hit price wise.

My suggestion to the OP was not to buy the repaired note because there are lots of Series 1922 notes available in the marketplace. Now thats just my opinion, for what's it worth. This note in XF45 to AU will run you $800-$950 in most cases.
If on the other hand you decide you just want to have an example and do not care about the resale later on down the line, then by all means get what you can afford!
Placing the delima on the board here will solicit many different opinion's like it has. The OP needs to decide what his goal is and committ to it. Seeking advice is always humanistic, however, we all have opinion's, desires and goals.

If I had the choice in that price range, I would as I said...save a little more and buy a XF example!

imho, both notes are damaged, one via a repair and the other by folding and soiling. I still prefer the top note.
