I am predicting that the third in the series will be the key. Here is why. The mint limited themselves to 96,000 rolled sets on the LP1. I think they underestimated the response they would have from the coin collecting community. So what did they do..... they minted a ton of the LP2 rolls...essentially ticking off all the collectors because they now created something that was worthless. So for the next series, collectors will remember what happened with the LP2s and won't buy as much LP3's. Then, when the collecting community realizes this, the LP3s will be gone and they will buy up all the LP4s. Thats my theory and I am sticking to it.
Do they put that much thought into collectors and strategies? I dunno . . . I'm thinking that they are probably thinking pretty simply on this -- i.e., "heck, if we can sell 250,000 sets of LP2, let's make 250K of LP3, too!" But, 2009 is such a unique year in the history of coins, I'm not making any guesses!
i wish i could cancel my ten 2-roll/set that i already received. and change it to guam quarter roll/set. simply because the formative years mintage is too high. well. i might just order guam.
i never return any products bought from the mint or dealers. i remember i bought 20 set of 2007 clad proof set. that is the last few days before the mint stop selling. but then all the set were returned by someone else. like the outer slip look like all water damaged. some coins were frosted. all boxes were open before. i did not return to the mint either. i did call the mint and they allow me to return. but it is time consuming to wrap it and go to post office. i decided to keep it. now if i separate it and sell them. i don't think i will lose money. because the 2007 presidential set is over $20.00. the set cost $26.95.
Is it possible to return sets individually? I ordered 5 sets and got 5 sets packaged 2 rolls to a box. I haven't opened any of them yet. The mint website makes it sound like if I want any refund at all that I must send EVERYTHING back. Can I return just 2 or 3 of the sets?
i think you can not. that's the mint rule. i don't know. someone else should help you clarify that. cause i never return any.
how you considered the date on the box is april 20, 2009?. is it first strike?. is it first day of issue?.
They're Lincoln cents LP2 and the date on the boxes is 4-15-09, which is really strange since they weren't released until 5-14-09. Incorrect date on the box maybe? Nothing special about them like first date of issue or "first strike" (bogus designation IMO). At this point I think I'll just hold onto them and see if prices go up after the mint sells out.
formative years LP2 e-bay price rebound to $45.00 level. maybe because one of the mint mark(D) is by so far the lowest at 199,200,000.
Now I see news about a series of double-die errors on the reverse of LP2. Lincoln has extra fingers. Multiple sales on ebay the last couple of days from $25 to $50 per coin. Oh the pain. To open and search the rolls or not... If the errors are actually double-die and there are a LOT of them, does it pay to strike while the iron is hot?
lincoln birthplace (P) 284,400,000 lincoln birthplace (D) 350,400,000 lincoln formative years (P) 311,600,000 lincoln formative years (D) 199,200,000
What makes you say that? The web site, for me, at 12:50 pm ET, says: "Product will be available for shipping 06/19/2009"
Maybe things are different in good 'ole San Antonio,:hammer: but around here people use (and lose) a LOT of cents. Looking at the mintages, there are about ONE of each mint and design being minted for each person in this country. That means for every LP1, LP2, etc. set purchased, there will be ONE HUNDRED PEOPLE who can not have even a single coin of that date and mint to keep. If you buy a $25 box of them at the bank and squirrel it away, that is TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED PEOPLE who can't have ANY of that design and mint. Sounds pretty hard to find to me...
Yep, and how many people in this country are COIN COLLECTORS... A lot, yes! But not every person in this country.. Okay somebody hoards away o box of formative years... Alright, that is 2,500 people that won't ever see that coin, and I'm willing to bet that most of the 2,500 are not coin collectors If anybody wants the coin so bad, then go pay a premium on ebay for it... If people are not willing to do that, it only proves my point.
