The extra finger Formative Year error is going for $30-$50 on ebay.....Is it worth it to tear open the P mint wrapped roll????? Anyone else doing it?
I have checked out just one "P" roll, and of course, NO extra finger.....except the one I gave......LOL. I can't suggest to anyone if it's worth it or not to open it, I guess that just depends upon each individual.:goof:
been wondering about it myself actually.... I have 4 boxes left after the one I am keeping for me.... very tempting to crack one of them open since the mint just cant seem to sell out the LP2s....
Well, if you are not flipping.... Then just pop open that box, rip open those rolls, find the extra finger, sell it... If you don't find an extra finger, cherry pick out the best ones, and if you think you have a MS67+ time to send into PCGS!
I think every roll I ever cracked open looking for something special gave me the finger. But that's just my luck... Rick L.
Not so fast guys..... The extra fingers are found in coins minted 4/28-4/30.....very similar to the 1955 DDO's, it was a short run and geographically narrow to the Boston area. With the internet shipping and driving to get them, I think the date they were produced is now more important.
I just checked, my set is marked 4/30/09, plus I live pretty close to Boston, I'm about to check them, I'll let everyone know if I find anything good.
My sets were marked April 20th! So I wouldn't have been lucky either way.. lol Good thing I sold mine
NO NO NO The 55 DDO rolls were found mostly in Boston, not the LP2's...sorry for the confusion. It's the date they were manufactured ( or shipped in this case ) that is important.
No problem, I was going to bust my roll open anyway, curiosity killed the cat , anyway interesting enough here's what I found on about 10 of them.
I'm not sure, I've seen a couple different ones on eBay, some are very strong, and others are weak, I think this one falls somewhere in the middle.
Two people on coinnetwork.com/forum reported finding double dies in the LP2 P rolls. One said they were on both ends of the P roll, and another said they found ten in one P roll.
I need to see more pics!!!!! I just went through the remander of what I have left of my P roll from the mint and I have found at least 3 different "finger" varieties. Most have been very "clean" ones. Nothing is evident. Then of the three that I have found that have something going on, they are all in the area of his thumb. Some funky stuff is happening there.
