I Know There Is A Better Way

Randy, just buy an old refrigerator and store your coins in there. It's large enough to hold them, easy to access and you can lock them if you need to. You can plug it in and that does away with the humidity but you'll need more air dryer to remove the extra moisture.

The only thing I can think of is to buy the right size box for the slabs and that means several kinds. Don't use rubber bands as they can hurt the slab. Any plastic you decide on needs to be PVC free but you know that.

That seems like a recipe for disaster. If you store them in a running fridge, they'll get cold -- and humidity will condense onto them every time you open the thing and expose them to warm and humid air!

 

There are those vacuum bags for storing clothes that you suck the air out with a vacuum and it compresses the clothes down. I think they are called Magic Bags. Anyway you can find them in Wal Mart in the laundry area. Bet those would work. I've used them for clothes before. They are reusable too

Here’s what I’ve used for the last 6 or 7 years. They are watertight, stackable, and hold 13 slabs — I have NCG, PCGS, ANACS, etc slabs, all fit very well. Not sure what the are made, but no issues with tarnish on silver coins.

 

That's a great idea. I bet Pelican cases would be a good option too. They come in many different sizes.

Intercept Shield is the professional way to go for storage of multiple slabs; they also make individual "boxes" for single slabs. They can be purchased from sources such as Lighthouse and Wizard Coin Supply, among others.

Another route to go is if you have ever submitted several coins in one submission to NGC or PCGS for grading, they will return them to you in a plastic storage 2-part box with a lid that interlocks with the lower tray. Add a small Desiccator (with color change indicator) and monitor it every 3 months--replace when exhausted--and that will prevent any moisture in the box from affecting the coins; this will also work for coins in 2x2 flips or mylar holders.

Yes it would. Remove as much air as possible and then the desiccant grabs up the moisture in the air that remains.

 

Just a follow up. I was excited about @Dug13 idea. It was the perfect solution for me. Sadly, after ordering from three sources that no longer had the item, it seems that box is a thing of the past.

So I came across this. It isn’t perfect but it does snap closed reasonably air-tight and it is BPA free. It isn’t perfect. There is a middle divider. One side fits slabs perfectly. The other side doesn’t. It will do until I find a better solution.

 

Room left over for half a sandwich! What's not to like about that?
