My cent collection face value is $4.35. Not much to show for 50+ years is it? :smile The Two Cent pieces are worth $.24 face.
Of course not! Converting the values of something north of 150 currencies (some of which don't exist anymore) with anywhere from a couple to a couple of hundred individual coins each, would be a gargantuan task that wouldn't leave any time for other activities.
Nickels don't add up very quickly. But my barbers do, 141.55 in numismatic stuff. we counting bullion 90% silver? that'll take a little while.
Actually an interesting question. I have no idea. I wonder how many coin collectors do know that. I wonder how many dealers know that. At one coin show I go to there is a dealer that has 3 tables full of coins in those glass covered cases and many 3 ringed binders also full of 2x2's. He told me once that this is only a fraction of his inventory. I wonder if he has any idea of the total face value.
.........i did record the face value of my collection a few years ago and i came up with 4200 dollars. it's not accurate now, though, since i've added to it and didn't update the figures. now i guess you've made me conscious of the face and NOW i'll have to count everything again! DARN!
I'm gonna guess less than $20.00. I have mostly cents, lots of Nickels, a few halves and dollars, and plenty in the middle. Just starting collecting, so check back in a year - I expect to add 3-4 dollars face worth of Walkers.... Joe
If I simply added the figures, I would end up as a multi-billionaire. After all, some of the pieces are inflation money - with lots of zeros but without any monetary value these days ... Christian
Read a little history my young friend. Long before Zimbabwe inflation ran rampant in other countries like the German Weimar Republic and Turkey. Based on his location, my guess is that Chris is talking about notgeld.
And that was a joke on my part.... The hundred billion, and trillion dollar notes from Zimbabwe was what I was referring to.
Maybe I should collect paper money too, in order to have even more billions and trillions. But hontonai is right, I "do" coins only, and having some German notgeld coinage sure drives the face value, so to say, up very fast ... Christian
I actually started cataloging my collection a few months ago. I try to work on it a little bit every day and a lot on others. It takes a long time to organize, perform research (especially on the World Coins), record the findings as well as photos, etc. for the favorites. To answer your question, I have no idea and will take someone with a much more methodical approach to collecting and record-keeping than I have! I'm sure there are members here with 50x as many coins as I have in my collection. However, I believe it is worth it to figure it out and create a master database with the information. Mostly, I'm thinking of my relatives and providing them the tools should they want to do something with the collection in the future.
