I promised myself that I wouldn't buy any more unnecessary 1827's until I reach the magic 100 DM mark needed for Bust Half Nut Club statis. This one puts me at 88.

Not real happy about the carbon spot on the obverse, but still a nice coin for the grade.

And here I thought you were a charter member. Two guys in my local club are long-time members. One has about 250 DMs. But he's a piker, the other guy has, I think, every DM or very close to it. The number he has is over 400, I think. How many DMs exist for the Bust Half?

    Pretty coin.
I'll never make it into the club. I was trying but gave up at about 50 DM's.
Got to meet some cool members at FUN the last few years.

There’s an associate membership, which only requires you to own 30 different DMs.

PS: I am currently at 19 DMs, but I am not in a hurry...

Since I only have enough Bust Halves to fill my type set varieties, I don't know what DM means.
Bust Halves are not one of my interest areas.
Would someone please clue me in?

I have 1 Flowing Hair half, 1 Draped Bust half and 5 Capped Bust halves.
    -- Flowing Hair 1795 PCGS VF-20
-- Draped Bust 1796-1797 Small Eagle MISSING
    -- Draped Bust 1806 Heraldic Eagle / Knob 6/Lg St/CAC PCGS XF-40
    -- Capped Bust 1807 Lettered Edge / Var 1 / Lg Stars, 50/20 PCGS VF-30
    -- Capped Bust 1831 Lettered Edge / Var 2 PCGS AU-50
-- Capped Bust 1834 Lettered Edge / Var 3 / Sm Date, Sm Ltrs PCGS AU-55
    -- Capped Bust 1837 Reeded, 50 CENTS NGC AU-58
-- Capped Bust 1838 Reeded, HALF DOL. PCGS AU-55

Not surprisingly, I'm missing the Draped Bust/Small Eagle Reverse variety.

There are 453 capped bust dms... a complete set has only been done 3 times. Since there are only a couple of 1829 O-120s known to exist the total number of complete sets is limited to 2 at any one time.

    Ah ha, thanks.
    I understand die marriages.
I've been toying around with a Capped Bust half cent set off and on for years.
For a 9 year issue there's something on the order of 120 varieties.

But even if you cannot obtain or afford an O-120, the unsatisfied CBH collector can then start in on die state collecting of the numerous DMs, an activity that would keep one occupied likely forever.

    @okbustchaser - Great coin.

I’ve always wondered- what is it about the 1827’s that draws you? The vast variety of die marriages?

The fact that so many people told me not to--that they were "impossible" to authenticate because there were so many DMs.

Don't EVER tell me I can't do something! LOL

Thanks for sharing- a fine reason!

I have the “two 2’s” but I’ll stay out of your way on the rest of them. :)

Nice 27s...your O-126 looks a lot nicer than mine.
