I am a relative newbie to CoinTalk and coin collecting. I recently purchased this 1928-s Peace dollar that had already been graded. (Not sure if the grading company is one of the better names or not.) I know what Red Book values this coin at & what I paid for it. I'm interested in the opinions of people here of this coin's grade. Thank you for your opinions.

Looks like a 1923, from the pictures...
It has a considerable amount of wear on the coin
From the pictures provided, I could maybe give a guess of EF45-AU50.
Although, to say anything is definite, I'd need to see better pics
    The top graders are
    PCGS and NGC
People will also argue that ICG, ANACS, PCI, and now DGS would be good grading companies as well
Although, PCGS and NGC are considered the best, by most, but if you can get a quality coin, in somebody else's holder, for a good price, DO IT!

Don't rely on redbook either... Values will change FAST
I guarantee the 2010 redbook has already, ALREADY, has some coins' values that are outdated
Your best price guides are a combination of, ebay's completed listings, heritage completed listings, and PCGS price guide, and numismedia price guide. Try to pay close to a coin's wholesale, or greysheet ask, rather than pay close to retail value every single time.
Come back for more help, any time, and we'd love to see you around! :)
Welcome to cointalk, and the hobby :)

TY for looking. Not sure my little camera will take a more clear photo but, I will try. A couple of the attachments were scanned, though that didn't work very well either...

P.S. I love this site and all the great information I have came across here.
    Thanks again

Alrighty, now we are getting somewhere! LOL
    Very good pics now :)
I see wear on the eagle, big time, while the hair on the obverse of the coin, is looking alright
I would grade this coin in the VF35-EF40 range
I'd be interested in knowing what the grading company said, and which grading company it is.. Although I think I may have a hunch...
And also what you paid if you don't mind... If they overgraded it, you might have got burned...

The only thing that the slab has on it is "Coin Grading Company" and they have it graded at MS63. I gave $75.00 at auction for it. Did I get a bad burn?

    Ouchie...
Sorry to say, you did get taken on this coin...
This is not a MS63, and was graded by some "XYZ" grading company...
Now, this might be good though, this is a start of learning from here on out! :D
This coin might be worth $30-$35 based on the condition
Learn how to better grade coins, don't just trust the slab, and when you do want to put faith in the slab, do it with PCGS, and NGC, and some of the other companies, as you learn how to grade coins, more accurately
Use your redbook as a guide! It has a little guide on how to grade coins, and gives the details for a grade of a coin, and if that is not enough, buy a book on grading a certain type of coin
Yes, you got burned, but this is a good thing, you are learning already! :)
Once you learn how to grade coins more properly, then, you can take chances on these XYZ grading companies, and self slabbers, if you see the coin in hand, and maybe crossover to PCGS or NGC, just to see if you are grading correctly!
GOOD LUCK and we are always here!

    That is a good price!
    2 2005 PCGSMS69 ASE's for $31 total...
    Infact...
    WOW!
They will sell near $30 each!
    That is really good....

Yeah, looks to be a VF-30. Did you buy it on ebay? Is there no grading company name anywhere to be found on the slab?

I try to buy a slabbed MS60-65 and a 69 version (by the top two graders) on the coins I collect just to keep for reference.:smile
