Mint Wrapped Lincolns?? Copper

I have seen a few posts on e-bay asserting that the mint wrapped rolls of lincoln cents were the "1909" copper mix and bank wrapped rolls are the zinc.

All info (semi-vague) I have seen has said that the orig mix would only be in the proof, mint, and special set with Commem (although info on that is spotty too).

Has anyone opened a mint wrapped roll who can weigh a cent and verify....if they are 1909 mix copper, I need to get some....:eat:

If not, pick them up for face value...

As far as I know the copper cents are proof and the business strikes are copper-plated zinc.

It is pretty clear on the mint site that the proof and mint sets will have copper, circulation will be zinc, but can someone confirm the special mint wrapped rolls are not copper....that is the one that is unclear, and people are stating on e-bay they are the orig copper...although everything I have seen says no.

Who's got a scale out there??

The ordering page at the mint for the LP2 rolls says they are in "circulating condition". They don't spell it out, but I would be money that they're mainly zinc, and not copper. The ebay sellers are either mistaken or lying. Either way, ebay itself doesn't care. It would be interesting to see someone buy a roll or two and make a SNAD claim due to the composition. Something tells me ebay would just laugh at "proof" that involved weight and specific gravity.

The Lincolns in mint wrapped rolls are zinc. The copper cents are only going to be found in proof and mint sets. I just cracked open one of my rolls that I got in today and weighed it.....result = zinc. They are actually quite stained. I have to search through them to find the best ones for my book.

Are both the P and D stained? I felt that the 2009-D T1 from bank was very bad, and will be sorry if same for T2. Went to the bank today and no T2 yet, but I found another box of 2009-D T1.

The D's were really bad. The P's not so bad. It was definitely harder to find a nicer Denver mint than Philly.

I got type 1 D mint 3 days ago and today I got a type 1 P mint which was nice since we get mostly D mint here in Texas. They are starting to circulate.

I hope you didn't break open a mint-wrapped roll just for that... could've just rolled any 50 zinkers and weighed the roll. There is a 30 g difference between a solid zinc roll and a copper roll.

Heck ya I did..... but I didn't do it to weigh the coin. I did it because I needed to find some nice examples for my book and to put them in flips so I can give them away to the kids at my local coin shows and club meetings.

My box of the second issue has many very high grade coins

My box of the second issue (I paid $25) has many/several very high grade coins but most are like they have all been in recent years with the little black splotches and so on.
Out of 25 rolls I've been able to set 75 singles aside - that's pretty much the norm for my standards on Lincolns in the past 9 years.
If I get 4 or 5 rolls out of a box of 50 I feel fairly satisfied but I am picky, very picky.
