That would be like one of the best finds ever. I cant seem to ever get that kind of luck. Or a person could always yank a 1943 copper out of a roll of pennies... that would be nice.

On a side note my bank today got some 2009 dime rolls maybe I should go get a couple and put them on the bay for the whole roll and see what I get for it? Cant believe people have been paying $20+ for one dime.

    Go for it!

Or, rather, I'd sell them one-by-one first (1 day auctions, 1 per day), until the price goes low enough that it's not worth it. Then I'd sell rolls.

Well when anyone gets a extra roll of 09 dimes, I would give a 10 spot for it so I can put it back for my grandkids.....

I'll see what I can find tomorrow. I was stupid that I didnt pick them up today. Hopefully no one bought a stash of dimes today, but to be fair I found out pretty late in the day so I have a bit of an excuse.

I think if I do get a few rolls I probably will sell a handful on one day auctions for a week or so and see what they bring if not much, then I can certainly keep the other ones or make a good friend on coin talk and send them some. I'll post what I find tomorrow.

took my coins in to the same coin counting machine, and it counted more than i actually dumped in AGAIN! counted me up to ~$95 ... i think it's because it's an "overload" of pennies, it counts faster than it's dumping the coins in the bag. any other ideas?

i also wish i could find some 2009 coins ... all i've found (by actually ASKING) are 1 Guam (25¢) and 2 District of Columbia (25¢). no pennies, no nickels, no dimes, no halves.

    Hello all,

I am just getting into CRH and I think it's pretty neat. I can feel a new obsession coming on. :) I go for the "treasure hunt" aspect of it more than anything..fun little hobby. I've gone through $250 of halves so far with no luck. I'd like to make it a regular thing but am curious how you guys handle getting lots of rolls and then turning them back in. I know I can just order a box of halves but how do I cash them in on a regular basis? Any advice? Had a bit of trouble finding halves so I'm going to search quarters for now. This sure is fun.

I've looked around for banks in the area (Boston) that have coin counting machines and have found a few but I think they'll catch on pretty quick if $500 worth of halves starts showing up in there...unless they just ship the coin off to Brinks or something.

If you put your coins in a machine, does the bank get them and have to deal with them? I know I could just show up with a bunch of rolls and demand that they get deposited but I dont want to be a pain in is butt or deal with a cranky teller by doing that weekly. Right now my floor is covered with hunted halves and I'm itching to get more!

Any other advice or tips appreciated. I'm still figuring out a list of "what to look for" with the various US denominations...anyone have any advice in this department?

Happy hunting! Looking forward to posting my finds!

    Meg :hatch:

in regards to them catching on, the bank i use to cash in my coins doesn't even say anything, i just took about $80 worth of pennies and $15 in nickels in and used the machine, they didn't even say anything about it. the banks do get a fee for you using the machines (if you don't have an account), but it's not as high as coinstar (at least where i live), so that's why i use the bank's machine.

I buy pennies from one bank, and turn them into my own which uses a machine and lets me do $200 a day in coins free

    Hi Meg

Welcome to coin roll hunting! It is a lot of fun…I basically search pennies and occasionally dimes but I only buy pennies by the box. I try to buy a box of pennies each week…not more than that because tellers tend to get cranky when I bring the coins back to deposit. The problem is that Baton Rouge seems to be backward when it comes to CRH…at least I’m lucky I have 2 branches of my bank (bank where I have an account) near where I live…so I usually buy a box in one and take it back to the other. Sometimes (may be every 2 weeks) I buy a box from another bank where I don’t have an account (That’s the only one around here that sells coins to non-customers).

The teller at my bank where I deposit the unwanted coins has made it her mission to look annoyed and ask me every time “Where are you getting all these pennies from?”…I patiently answer the same every time…the key is not to upset the tellers!! In fact, we don’t have a coin machine in any of my bank’s branches….I roll the coins up when I’m done looking through them and bring them back…the teller usually opens a roll or two out of 50 just to make sure it contains pennies and nothing else! (I put the rolled coins back in the same box they came in and when the box is full, I take it to the bank…it’s easier for them to count and keep.) And that’s it…she lets me deposit it in my account.

But then I’ve been doing this only for about 2-3 months…so they are not at the point of getting annoyed yet! :D Let’s see what the veteran roll searchers have to say about this.

And yeah, welcome to the club of roll searchers. :high5:

some banks dont care how much you pick up. I have a standing weekly order of 12 boxes from 1 bank branch.

The dumps need to be handled more carefully. Since I dump loose, I try not to exceed more than $100 per visit. If I rerolled them, I'd just dump the entire lot.

Bob, You mind me asking what bank? I've been looking for a bank with a coin counter, and have not found one yet.

    Latest box of half dollars

The latest box from the credit union only turned up 3 x 40%ers, and 2003p, 2004d and a 2005d. So not to bad.

On a different note the BoA near me has started order boxes for free as long as I don't bring them back to them. :thumb:

The couple of banks I dump at only accept rolled coins. I take them from $500 - $1500 a week, only give them $500 at a time, so far no static from the tellers just the bank manager gives me a hard time.

My banks will not accept rolled coins because they have no idea how many coins the rolls contain. They would rather count the coins in one of their machines to be accurate. I find it funny when I bring in several hundred dollars in halves only and they give me 34 cents in change in addition to the money I brought in. How they do that? :goofer:

Oh hell no! I wouldn't use the bank if they charged for a service like that.

I have asked about the odd change and they said that it must have been somewhere lost on the inside of the machine and they give it to me anyway.

I bought my first rolls today: 10$ in nickels and 5$ in pennies. I have sorted them all by decade as of right now. I haven't gotten a chance to delve into them yet.
