Decided to bust up on of my LP2 rolls from the mint last night to look for any high grade ones and I found 3 that have what looks to be a gouge or possibly a clash right under Abe's chin, it is shaped like a "Y" shaped tree branh upside down going from his chin to his chest. It is definitely raised and looks the same on 3 coins. I will get some pics up later if they come out. Anyone heard of this one yet?

Also, I can email the larger size pic to anyone if they want to look at it closer. If this is a new variety who would I send it to for verification?

Yea that is the only area where it shows is from the bottom of the chin to the chest. I thought it was scratched at first until I saw that it is raised and found two more just like it. I could see die crack too.

We need a complete photo of the obverse to really tell.

OK. I will try to get one at lunch, its hard to get the whole thing in through a 20x loupe, would a 10x be enough? Are you trying to see if the crack runs anywhere else? Or what would that tell you?

heard back from a pro, his opinion is die crack. Oh well, still was a neat find and I kind of have die clash on the brain so it was a good rush when I first saw it on 3 of them.

You know, I am really wondering about this, if it were a crack would it have seperate features? Most die cracks I have seen have been one continuous line. I crudely and poorly drew over the areas that are raised on the coin so it is easier to see, wouldn't that have to be more damage than just a crack? I would think it was a clash but I can't seem to find anything that lines up with those shapes. Let me know what you think.

Looks like a strange place for a die crack, more likely a die gouge.

I was thinking that cracks don't usually appear in the middle do they? I think I have it figured out. Die clash, look at the last pic I posted and compare that to the reverse, the lines are in the right place for the opening in abe's shirt and you can see the seperate blobs for the buttons. I think that is it! Die clash! Anyone else agree?

How about a pic of the reverse. I don't have the coin in hand.

you really have to use a scope to see it well but this should give you an idea, you can't really make out the button holes in this pic.

also, I sent an email to numismatic news and coinworld, is there anything I should do to protect myself as the discoverer if this is a clash? I will let everyone know what they tell me if I hear back.
