LET'S GO REDWINGS,....., LET'S GO REDWINGS....., LET'S GO REDWINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:hail::hail::hail::hail::hail:
Good call on Toews Jim. His maturity level is well beyond his years. Guess that's why he's the youngest captain the Hawks have ever had. Plays both ends of the ice as well. As for Huet. Yes, he was awesome last night. Too bad his supporting cast wasn't there. He did play quite a lot this year actually. I have no clue why he didn't see more action in the playoffs. Last regular season game he played was a victory IN Detroit. As for the one that really impressed me on the Wings. Darrin Helm NO DOUBT. Not just because of yesterdays efforts either. He works HARD and is very creative. A bright future for him. Now as for Crosby. He's good but as you pointed out so are a lot of other players. As for the next Gretzky. Mario Lemieux was the closest anyone has come. A Gretzky comes along once in a lifetime. When I saw Olvechkin's little "stunt" after scoring his 50th this year I really started to dislike him. Yes, he's good. He scores, he hits and he's dirty. I could see him really celebrating his 77th or 93rd goal of a season. You know, when he surpassed Phil Esposito or Gretzky. Till then - just play the game.
Well congrats to the Wings this year , hope they go all the way , but next year it's GO BLACKHAWKS . Now if only the White Sox hitting starts to warm up . rzage
I would argue that The Stanley Cup is perhaps the most difficult trophy in professional sports to win back to back. It has been done, by some legendary teams, but the odds are against it. A lot will depend on what Red Wing team shows up. Consistency has been the challenge this year for Detroit. They have the talent and depth. Not every team has four lines they can play, and that can score. Detroits defense cannot allow the number of shots that Chicago was able to produce. If Detroit can control the number of shots that Pittsburgh can generate, my prediction will be Detroit in 6. In Chicago, my advice would be to continue building, they have two solid producing lines, and to listen to their consultant, Scotty Bowman. He understands building for the long term success of a franchise. He was a key element in identifying young players, and in developing their talent before the pressures of the NHL were thrust upon them. Just more ramblings from an old hockey fan.
On the gretzy thing. There is a level that very few players ever reach in sports. When you think of hockey its Gretzy, Howe, and a few others. Football you have to think of Montana, Rice, etc.. Basketball its Jordon, Wilt, etc.. All of sports tries to put these players in the elite class when they have shown nothing except that they have talent. Let the stats put them in the "class" where they belong when it gets furter along in their careers. Crosby, Lebron etc.. They are young. Yes they are good but they have ALOT to prove in my mind before they are mentioned in the same breathe as the true elite players. One player on a TEAM will not win a championship without a supporting cast. Would Jordon have been the dominate player he was without Pippen? Gretzy without Coffey? Go Red Wings. Bring it back to Motown.
Couldn't agree more :thumb: The dynasty teams all have had a strong cast of role players. Star and role players come and go. How they contribute together provides the success. Good to see both number 7 and 9 on the ice tonight. Both are seen regularly at the Joe. The younger players see that continunity and want to be a part of it.
I have had the opportunity to meet both of those gentleman several times over the years. They truly are great ambassadors to the sport. I had season tickets to the Vipers and got to see Howe skate on a team for the last time, that was amazing to watch. I have a hockey puck of his that he signed for me years ago around here somewhere. The "old" men taught the boys a lesson last night. Can't believe Erikkson played after having appendicitis surgery Wednesday. Tonight should be a good game as well. Wings win this one and they are well on their way. I was shocked at the announcers last night, they actually said some nice things about the Wings. whats up with that? Lets Go RED WINGS...
The announcers on NBC are not to be believed. They must play with different rules in the East. He doesn't realize that the officials on the ice set the tone of the game, for both teams.
A little late on the ball here, but seeing as there are so many Wings fans here i had to represent my Pen. GOOO PENNNNNS! Down 0-2 in the series or not, they wont go down without a fight. Lets hope we get some better officiating at Mellon.
De Orc , time to work out a deal with the Mrs. when Detroit wins you get a new coin , gold would do nicely .:thumb: rzage
Rzage, You're talking about a household in London with a Hawks and Red Wings fan. Cripes man could it get any worse? Had the Hawks won he'd probably be sleeping on the street. Here's to you DeOrc - hope you're sleeping on the street next year! Now something for the Penguin fans. Watch closely. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwTqC2T6q4E
LOL I have a good garage with all mod cons :goofer: Now I like the coin idea though as a consalation for my pain and anguish (Um must work on this :bow
I'll sure agree on the officiating. It has been inconsistent. That just causes confusion on the ice, then the Versus broadcasters feed it by making declarations on the air that the replay tape views don't support. Tonight Bettman, I think it was, said that this series has the least penalities in many years, didn't expect that!
I have not watched a gem yet I admit, but I do understand media bias. Ever watch an NBA finals game with " Marv the Wig ".....? As a Pistons fan I find him and his bias appaling.......How about announce, color and report. Leave the fan stuff to the fans Go WINGS, make me proud of Detroit for something, anything, I'm not high maintainance, honest.
Series tied at 2-2 and I watched most of the game. Pens looked tough but were at home and home ice IS an advantage. I DIDN'T watch game 3 though and if I were a Red Wings fan I would be FURIOUS just from the recap. Pittsburgh had an extra player on the ice for 21 SECONDS and no penalty was issued!?! THEN Detroit gets a penalty and Pittsburgh scores? Talk about a momentum changer. Hey being a ref isn't easy but to miss that is just ridiculous. Like I said I didn't watch the game but saw the highlights. Was Babcock screaming on the bench? Almost make me want to (Ewwww!) root for Detroit. This coming from a die hard Hawks fan.
Detroit sure didn't do themselves any favors either. Their play was uneven, with very little of the defensive puck control they can do so well. The Wings were in a position to take a step up and put considerable pressure on the Penguins coming back to Detroit, but just didn't get it done. We've see this uneven play, inconsistency if you will, before all too frequently. That's why it's so hard to win the Cup back to back. The great teams have got it done. So now Detroit gets to decide if they want to be one of those great teams.
Pens deserved to win that game last night. They were the better team on the ice last night. As for the 6 men on the ice. the REF was yelling at a pens player to get off the ice from what I hear. I watched the replay and see a Ref watch the 6th man skate off and didnt call it. The series should be 3-1 right now. Wheres Hossa?
Correctumondo....That's probably why they go ahead and play the games. Now the Wings can decide how they want to react after embarassing themselves....
I think the refs are choosing not to call a lot of penalties both ways. It appears so far that the home team seems to have the advatge on the calls. In my opinion Detroit gets away with a tremendous amount of interference that is not called. As you can guess I am a die hard Pens fan mand have been since the early 80's. Looks like its going to be a great series. GO PENS!!!!!!!!!!!!
