Just to be different I would like to start a thread for some of those coins that are damaged or just plain ugly. Because UGLY COINS NEED LOVE TOO!

Here is my very ugly 1915 Wheatie

I see opinions here all the time where people dont like this coin or series or that coin or series. It would be interesting to know exactly what coins one does not collect because they think they are ugly or some other reason. Too pricey does not apply, it is a coin you could collect if you wanted, but chose not to for any reason other than cost.

I don't collect BF Dollars. I have a lot of respect for Benjamin, but that obverse with the bald long hair.............

I don't collect WL Half Dollars. I like the ASEs and collect those. Don't want a repeat

How about a 1944 Australian Shilling that I used to experiment with. The first 2 pictures are before pictures and the third picture what the coin looks like now. By the way I did not use any chemicals and no rubbing or scrubbing was used. Sorry for the poor quality of the pictures.

I really don't want to post how I removed the tarnish from the coin. It's just not right to post coin cleaning methods in my opinion. Some one may ruin a perfectly good coin trying this stuff. But if you really want to know just PM me. May I add this is the only coin I ever tried this on.

Roosevelt Dimes are ugly to begin with, but when you add toning like this, you have a real loser. Of course I can't really compete in this venue since my collection is based on eye appeal. This is the best I could come up with.

Before you guys say this coin is not that bad, maybe I should show you the holder!

If you can find an uglier MS67 than that beast, go ahead and show it.

Especially when the poor little uglies are rare, too! There's a beautiful classical-style head of Hercules buried under that corrosion.

    Wow, Lehigh . . . that's an astounding matched-pair of pictures.

FWIW, I do have some ugly Roosies ("creeping crud from being in old Whitmans) . . . but in no way are they MS-67.

Any guess as to the grade of the 1964 I have here?

This should qualify. Rusty, discolored and even missing a number, it's not pretty.

Is this about coins that are ugly by design? If yes, the SBA dollar does not qualify. :p

Oh and here somebody scratched a euro symbol and a stickman "into" a coin. Nah, wait, this is the design. Issued by each of the 16 euro area member states ...

Ugly, of course, is in the eyes of the beholder.
The toning on the Roosevelt dimes (posted above) is a REAL turn-off for me.
But my best "ugly" comes from that "other" popular collectable.
(Is "stamps" a dirty word in here?)
Not only is it ugly, but it's one of my favorites because it shows a little slice of "business as usual" back in the 1860's.

Are images of stamps allowed in here?
