We don't have anything of that nature. Its either straight bullion, or Stacks and I forget the other name. Those places sell almost exclusively museum pieces.

    eh

Yes, it is an international show. But there are plenty of US coins there as well.

Since a grave plot is "long term storage", perhaps it's wise to "rent to own".

I can understand your perspective. I can also understand why Heritage doesn't typically send coins for slab replacement :
    1. It's slow, and consignors want to be paid ASAP (even that is slow... why make it worse ?). PCGS is really slow.
    2. There is a risk in submitting coins for a new slab - NGC will remove coins they consider overgraded from slabs and put 'em in lower grade slabs. (as mentioned on a prior thread). This won't please the consignor. I'm not sure if PCGS does that or not.

PCGS would change the grade jut for a slab replacement? Wow.(sarc off)

anyway, they have a slab replacement service and I'd be willing to bet that Heritage gets a different level of service than you and I.

PCGS doesn't downgrade on a PCGS coin re-slab. They guarantee the same grade or better.

They say 10-12 days, but don't guarantee that time. That's business days, not calendar days. $10.

One difference between NGC and PCGS - NGC is faster. They say 5 working days ($5). Twice as fast, half the cost of PCGS.

My limited experience is that NGC is often faster than their quoted time. PCGS drags it out to the very last day (though they've never been late for me).

    "Certified Coin Sleeves"

These slab protectors were for sale at the Colorado Springs coin show this last June. They work great. I carry a few at coin shows to wrap new purchases so the slabs don't get scratched on the trip home. Unfortunately, there is no name or contact information on the dealer package so I can't tell you where to order them. If anyone knows of the manufacturer or distributor, then perhaps you could post it.

My thought exactly. First a slab to protect the coin. Then a case to protect the slab. Then a box to protect the case. Then a safe to protect the box. Then...

Simple solution. Remove the coin from the slab, place in an album and look at it with all the others. Or place in liquid plastic, allow to cure and it will look the same in a thousand years.

Not sure where your at but in the area there are a minimum of 3 coin shows a month just outside Chicago in the near suburbs. There are numersous coin stores and hobby shops that sell coins. As to the ritzy place your talking about I think that is the one on Clark street and that is an exception. That place is, well can't say here. If you go to one of the coin shows you would find that many of the dealers are actually from local coin stores.

I didn't want to even give the name of that place. Being a person in the area every day I would not like to even say what I think.

But not in NY. You have to go way out into the suburbs to find local dealers or church shows even. I don't know of any active stores in the 5 boros at this point except those that specialize either in Bullion sales or expensive specialties.

    Coin / Card Sleeves

    Collect89 -

I have a pack of those too and they do work great. When I ran out, I also started to hunt for them on the web but couldn't find any. As luck would have it, I also deal sports cards occasionally and happened to have a packet of sleeves and decided to see if they would work. I discovered that not only do they work, they are exactly the same, right down to the ziplock they come in. Someone is ordering them, making their own label to replace the one in it and reselling them at a higher price. Here is an example of a place where you can order them - there may even be better deals out there. You shouldn't pay much more than $1 / 100ct
