$51? Congrats....that is higher than my dime went for!!!!!

And, it doesn't look like that guy is going to pay me for the $49 he bid on my first dime. He sent me the one message, then has been silent. I've sent him a message asking him to just let me know if he is going to pay or not. Rodzm, I suggest blocking him from bidding because he came in at the end and bid really high on my first dime just to do it as a joke (from what I can gather). He has a rating of zero and joined ebay on 5/25/09. His name is scottwhited2010. Of course, he could still surprize me and pay, but the tone of his note to me and the fact that he hasn't responded to my messages since then suggests otherwise to me. Just be cautious.

And way to go on the nickel price!!!

    Hold the phone....

The buyer just sent a note and asked if he could send me a money order and really wants the coin.

Is that against ebay rules? What is your advice on that? I'm going to post this question to everyone.

Ebay only allows Paypal payments, so technically it would be against Ebay rules. I dont see anything wrong and I would gladly accept MO payments myself but with this guy it raises some red flags.

Thanks Bob for the heads up about that guy.

I dont understand the craziness but I think the auction has turned out now to be a big hype. You know one of those auctions you want to bid on even if you know that you dont need the item, just to say you bid on it. I placed a bid on your dime knowing that I had some on the way but just the fact to at least place a bid on it it was cool in itself. If I wouldve won it I wouldve gladly paid for my bid you know just be part of "Ebay history"

Yes, this guy raises red flags to me. I'm leaning toward telling him to get a paypal account or forfeit the bid on the first 2009 dime on ebay. I'll not get that high of a price again, but I just don't feel right about this guy.

Any others have thoughts on whether or not to accept a MO?

Don't you have to have a paypal account to do ebay?

I wouldn't accept a money order, and I'd tell him to get a paypal, or the coin is not his :thumb:

PEOPLE CAN STOP PAYMENT ON BANK CASHIER CHECKS. Screw the MO, paypal only.

But can they stop payment on a MO. I mean a money order is about as good as cash so I dont see any downside to it. Unless of course you have someone counterfeting the MO's and you are unable to detect it. In which youre just screwed :headbang:

He's causing us to much stress, I need a valium . As we used to say in the service, "make him get with the program".

Just wait until it, or a bank check, or even a personal check, clears, no? Or am I missing something?

Yes, you need 10-14 days to clear, if it bounces, you lost this fast moving market.

I sent him a note explaining that paypal will cost him nothing to sign up for it and to send money. I didn't tell him "No" on the MO, but I asked what would be the problem to get a paypal account. I'll let you know how he responds.

Geesh Bob, I would take the MO in a heartbeat. You can always hold until it clears! The longer you wait the more likely it is that another Dime pops up, then another, and another. jmo, but I would get a cashiers check or MO in a heartbeat. I've done thousands on eBay and never had even one problem.

    But it's your dime.

Good luck to both of you!

The bubble may have burst already. I have a dime that is closing in 15 minutes that is at $12.51. I'll still take that any day of the week and be thrilled, but it looks like there are several out there now on ebay.

Regarding the MO, several people talk about how it can be forged, and since this guy is so unresponsive to my messages to him, I don't get warm fuzzies at all. Makes me leary....

Wow, I'm still amazed. It jumped to $26 in the last 10 seconds. I can't believe my good fortune in this.

Congrats!!! I think by the time I receive my dimes I may be tempted to throw a roll out there...or should I keep them in singles. Problem is if i put rolls out there so early it could work against me. I could just place 1 and do 2nd chance offers

The singles are still selling well. It is your decision of course......and a good one to have to make (really can't loose any which way you go).

How high is your nickel now?

51 buckaroos!!! I think Ill go the single route for now and do 2nd chance offers

One thing i learned is to not let hot auctions like this run for 10 days. Yes you get better exposure but you run the chances of getting less for your item.

    Here is the stats:

    61 Watchers
    11 Bids
    809 Views

(from someone who really seldom sells on eBay) it appears to me that you should go the singles route and offer 2nd chance, but do the auctions for as short a period as possible, 1 at a time, as many back-to-back as you can. 1 starts as the last one ends, if possible not even listed until after the last one ends.

Perceived scarcity is what is driving the prices of these coins right now, don't flood the market with rolls, and don't leave the impression that you have a lot of these, at least for now. It will result in more "hysteria" than if people feel the dam has burst.
