Is anyone writing a blog about the Long Beach show that started today? I wanted to go but could not, and now I'm wondering what the turnout is like, etc.
we're on our way now. Jack, magman, mark and I. Should be there in about 4 hours. We'll do a report then.
Well... here goes nothing. Snaz's long beach report: day 1, Whooo hoooo Well, Lincolns were hot at the heritage auction but I'll let Jack tell you all about that one. I can't believe the prices of all the Canadian stuff, just insane! I scooped many many updates for my large cent set at super good prices. And I mean good, You guys around here are paying F - VF money for XF/AU coins. Just awesome. Jack just walked in so I'll let them tackle the Lincolns for you guys! EDIT: He's kinda bummed out... was outbid in ALL his auctions... I don't think he'll be posting much tonight...
Yeah, I did not spend a dime at Heritage tonight, 1st time ever been locked out of an auction due to prices. Many coins did not sell, those with unrealistic reserves or junk in plastic... I will consider this a good sign tho...hope to see more of it, that would signal and up trend. One show is an anomaly, 3 shows is a trend. As for the show, the trip and the friends, I am having a blast. More to come tomorrow , I am beat from the drive.
Now it's my turn. I made one purchase so far, a nice High VF 1861 Indian Head Cent --- holed of course, for my holed type set. Tomorrow I'll search some more -- if not, I'm going to by a Roman Glass Bottle (which I've always wanted - theres a guy there selling ancient stuff, non-coin)
I bought some nice stuff today. A few Spanish Colonials and a Brazilian overstrike that was just too nice to pass up (will post that one here). Barber dime keys and semi-keys as tough as ever. Overall show looks about as busy as the last one. For the coins I buy, I don't see any price softening from last year.
You were there today??? Dang. Well watch for us tomorrow, I'll shoot you my phone number maybe we can meet up. Heck we probably saw each other, I was the young guy with the blue shirt looking all happy as can be. haha, hopefully you're there again tomorrow.
Great entries! I watched the first half of the Heritage auction, but I could not keep my eyes open. Did anyone witness the bidding on the most valuable coin of the night? How did that go? Was it exciting? :hammer: Also, I read somewhere last month that the coin market is softening for common coins and low grade coins, but prices are holding up for high grade coins, gold coins and very rare coins. Is that still true? Thanks, and keep up the good work!
Heritage Auction -- WOW! I watched the start of the Heritage US coin auction tonight (Friday) via the Internet, and all I can say is WOW. Compared to yesterday, it was HOT. Any else see that, and how did the show go today? Any market trends emerging?
Well hey all, Snaz and I are in the hotel room now while Jack and his bud go take a walk through Hollywood. I got some nice coins including a smashing redb/brown (and kinda woodgrain) 1908 IHC from Charmy, as well as 2 Roosevelt End Roll Toners for CHEAP, and a nicely toned 1938-D Jefferson. I'll make a new thread later and post up some pictures!
Depends if you're referring to the poker game or the heritage lot, I'll let him tell you about the game but I don't think he won anything in the heritage lots. Prices on the copper he was looking for was outrageous. Although the Canadian lots went super cheap! From what I gather the first day was better then the 2nd, and I'm not sure about the 3rd, we weren't there. Boss and Acanthite came by and we all joined in on the poker game, And we got a chance to see Boss' dellers darkened, NCS'd, hairlined, rose thorned, verdigoned 09 S VDB... and well.... It is not as bad in hand. A couple months on a window sill and it should be fine. Anyway, nice meeting all you guys and I look forward to a future rendeavous. -[Techno] Snaz (ask Jack) EDIT: also Clembo... We ate at the same restaurant in Hollywood and I am currently sitting on your bed in the hotel on Hollywood boulevard, that hotel that was under construction next door..... still not done.
The first two are in front of Longbeach, and the last one i in front of the Queen Mary. Magman on the left, Jack in the middle, and [Techno] Snaz on the right.
At the poker game last night, it was 8 CT members at the table for a awhile. That may be a record. Was at the show until 3 pm today, by that time some dealers had packed up. I searched a lot of IHC's for varieties without success, found only some RPDs I already have. I bought a cob from Lima mint, among other non-US purchases. Boss stopped by, showed me some of his great UNC toned IHC's and Lincolns. Also met MrOrganic. Good show, and as fun to meet CTers as it was looking at coins.
Darn, these kids wear me out, lol. I was the tour guide today, we went all thru the Hollywood Hills ( including showing the Manson / Tate crime scene house ), thru Beverly Hills, Malibu and on to Santa Monica, that is the top 2 pics incorrectly identified by TechnoSnaz..... Poker was a blast as usual, I lost but that was due to a bit much of partying all day at Rockbottom then on to the B&B for the game. AZ Mark and I were a bit wobbly when we left I was able to buy a 1909-S VDB, then make a trade with it and some cash, ending up with 2 of them in PCGS AU-58....sweeties for sure and at the "right" price:kewl: We have to be up and out of here by 7 am to get TechnoSnaz ( I'll elaborate later ) on his plane on time. I'll post more and some pics when I get home and relax a day. And yes Clembo......same hotel and same room even.....Snaz has your bed
the poker game: Left to right, AZMark, AJ, Charmy, Mr. Rick Snow More to come, awaiting more poker pics from Charmy.
