I found these coins and was wondering if anyone could tell me if they are worth anything.I have more and have uploaded the photos on photobucket it is to large to post .I scaned them at 600DPI. I dont lnow if it is ok to post the link here. So I uploaded the oldest ones I have here. I have buffalo nickels,Silver Quarters and half dollars. I have only one silver dollar. Thanks for any help.
Welcome to the forum!! Those V nickels are pretty beat up, the mercury dime is worth its silver content, so about a dollar.
Welcome to CoinTalk! Sorry to say the nickels aren't worth much due to them being damaged but you have a nice dime worth a little over a buck!
Thank you Thanks for the replies so far.How do i grade them? I am searching on the web and I dont understand the grading system,it seems so subjective to me.
Hello agian Ok I finished scanning a bunch of the coins I have found and put them on photobucket. If you want to look at them here is the link http://photobucket.com/jamespmooney You can post the replies here if you want to. I really have no idea what they are worth. I have another mercury dime but it has a hole in it where I guess someone put it on a chain. I have about a roll and a half of silver quaters now. Thanks for any help.
The coins are very very corroded, not worth much, might be able to get 50 cents each for the nickels, with the way the liberty nickel market is The dimes, will be worth around a little over $1 each, as long as there is no 1916 D The walking liberty, I just happened to glance at, and once again corroded, so not much value over silver content, could bring around $5-$7. The 1964 kennedy half dollars (didn't see if you had any) but if you do, would bring around the same The 1965-1970 kennedy halves were struck in 40% silver, making the silver content around $2 The franklin halves, should fetch around $6-$8 each, just depends on the condition Hope all this helps, and for more coins like you have (non keys, low grade) Use THIS Welcome to cointalk
Thank you So all these coins are only worth the value of the silver content then. Are they not good for starting a collection? Would I be better off to sell them and buy some better coins. I really thought I found a very nice treasure. I read up on the V nickel and I like the history of it ,I think I will keep both of them just for that fact alone. What adive would you give to a newbie in coins on collecting? Can I clean these coins up for my self?If so how would I do it? Thank you for all your help. James
Well sure, start your collection with what you got, save up, buy nicer coins, sell the worse condition ones, upgrade, you can learn and the process, kinda like a learn as you go You'll learn a lot about coins, just being here The coins, with heavy corrosion, and little detail, would only be worth the silver content, if they are silver Maybe start off a small set, of whatever you like to collect You will see that higher graded coins, will fetch far more Just collect what you want, and what makes you happy, and you can't go wrong
