For some reason, I really like the look of the light green seal on late Series 1928B and early Series 1934 FRNs -- Today, I built this page: http://www.panix.com/~clay/currency/lgs.html
I like those a lot too! Just picked this one up at a recent Heritage auction ...it's one of my new favorites.
If you have the Standard Guide to Small Size US Paper Money, it's also the plate note that is pictured in that book. Here's another favorite...another 1928C, however this one is from the Richmond district. Doesn't look nearly as nice, but it's probably the scarcest of all the LGS notes...as long as you don't count star notes and high denoms!
Wow! Now, I'm really impressed! :hail: I just looked and you are correct -- It is the note pictured in Standard Guide to Small Size US Paper Money. Double wow! The same book indicates the VF Richmond district is valued at $3,000!
Clay... the Series 1928 C FR notes are among the scarest Small size notes out there. Gem examples will run in the Thousands of dollars, unless you get lucky! I have a $5 LGS from Atlanta that I paid $200 for....it is an XF note at best. I know where a $10 1928 C is sitting right now that will cost you close to $5K and is the highest grade reported for that note. Always keep an open eye for 28 C's....great notes that are not easily found! RickieB
here are a few of my favorites:smile 1934 $10 CHICAGO FRN **STAR NOTE** 1934 A $20 CHICAGO FRN **STAR NOTE** **MULE**
They're beautiful notes! Something better than a nice LGS is a LGS Star Note -- Thanks for sharing them.
I can't see the back of his bill, but Dursin's 40 EF (above) does NOT appear at 1st glance to be materially worse than my 65's. The bottom margin could be a bit wider but the corners look sharp, I don't see any folds/creases, and the paper quality appears comparable to mine. What am I missing (assuming all the blems aren't on the back side) ? I look at bills in the 30's and below, it's clear you can see rounded corners, discolaration, folds, creases, and other defects immediately upon seeing the bill. Not seeing it with bills in the 40's and above at 1st glance -- are you vets ?
