Matt, I forgot to thank you yesterday for the contest. Thanks!!! Also, here is a picture of the first coin that I ever bought for myself.
The first coin(s) I ever bought for myself was a set of 8 Canadian Large Cents. I had just bought the new Whitman folders and needed to fill those holes. I got a great deal and had so much fun with them.
The first coin i bought was an 1897 o Morgan silver dollar, that i won off Ebay for my 13 year old son,to start off his coin collection.
first coin my mom took me to lucky,s coin shop in chicago on devon ave when i was about 9 years old(about 1968) and let me pick out a coin . so i looked for a while and decided on a mercury dime couldn,t tell you the date or mint i just like the design of the coin and i,ve been hooked ever since
The first coin I purchased was a Silver Maple Leaf! I liked the large size of the coin and it was cool knowing I was investing in silver. I still have it today and have a few more to boot. Hopefully I win that beauty!
My first coin purchase was a 1950-D Nickel to complete my Nickel book collection. I think I paid $ 10.00 for a MS64 which I thought was high at the time. I think it is still worth about $ 10.00 today.
My first set was BU set of War Nickles. My first real Coin was a 1873 CC trade dollar. Thanks for the contest
The first coin I ever purchased was a 1960 D...I got it for 1c But it was this little beauty that gave me the bug and started what will be a legendary collection some day...since then I have compiled a massive collection...everything from Indian Head Cents to American Silver Eagles and literally everything in between. Even a nearly completed type set. And I owe it all to my trusty little 1960 D...it is truly a work of art. -LTB
I'm going to give this contest about another hour or 2, so if you haven't entered yet.. get writing... This contest turned into a great stroll sown memory lane, I have read every single entry.. some great stuff in this one.
I was probably 10 to 12 years old back in the 70's and got totally taken by those adds that Littleton Coin and Stamp co would place in the back of my Mom's ladies magazines. You could send in a dollar, I think and they would periodically send you some "old" U. S. coins. I wound up with some worn out common date Indian head cents and Buffalo nickels or an occasional V nickel. You could keep them or send them back and I think I kept them all. They were junk, but I thought they were treasure back then. Looking back now I can see how they were meant to get kids into collecting, and they did the trick and now 30 some years later I am fully embedded in the hobby and love it. Rick L.
Without further adieu the winner is "TheNoost"!!! Congrats!!! PM me with your information. WOO HOO!!!
Matt, thank you for the contest. It was more then just a contest, as it gave us some insight to how many of our members got started in collecting. Congratulations Noost on winning, that is one nice coin you have comming your way. Bill
