I read somewhere that the national park quarters are next. Did I read correctly or is it just my imagination?

You'd be correct! And this will last us for the next 10 years, and I've also heard 20 years..So that old quarter reverse is long gone. I guess the quarter now, is kinda our way of commemorating things, but putting it in circulation...

Have not a clue, all I know is we will have a quarter commemorating a park, for the next 10 years at least

No one knows for sure how many sites are going to be chosen. It's supposed to be one per "entity" of which there are a minimum of 57. the fifty states, five territories, DC and an island or someplace that didn't qualify for a "state quarter". The problems include the fact that Delaware has NO national parks or monuments, there is a National park in Canada (Campobello national park in New Brunswick), and a major national monument in France (Omaha beach), plus places like Midway Island, which is a national wildlife area.

Then of course there's the question of which federally owned tourist attraction to be commemorated, which is why there may be two go rounds on this.

Makes you wander whats next after the parks. Presidential Dogs, State Flowers, Famous People or Famous quotes like "A penny saved is a penny earned".

That's why this was a total mistake. A new design per year would be wonderful, but this is way too much.

If they could put the money they are spending on these designs, dies, etc... toward the national debt or some cause that actually needs the money, we would be better off.

Actually if the can get the sucker I mean collectors to hoard them like they did the state quarters they make so much money it makes the money spent on the designs dies etc in significant. The problem is that instead of putting THAT money towards the debt they put it into the general fund instead and then spend 183% of it

There is no net expense for creating the designs, dies etc. It is all taken care of by the increased seniorage. The Mint is one of the very few government organizations that actually shows a profit. They don't even get appropriations from the budget but instead not only fund themselves but send money TO the Treasury.

Good point, but is there a point when the collectors say enough?
But then again there is a sucker born every minute.

You must realize that thanks to new administrations bailouts, the money the mint spends on dies and designs is like p-ing into the ocean.

It wouldn't make a dent but that's our grandkids problem now. You don't have to be concerned.

Collectors never say enough. For every one that drops off...hundreds more take his place. Every grandma will collect these for their grandkids ...you can bank on that..but the predatory tv coin shows have a lock on grandma and those who don't even know the internet exists.

We could use the reverse on the dime to commenorate every Federal program since Social Security, the proceeds can go towards paying for them. This series would last forever.
