    WOW!

Thanks platfanatic. And, he even mentions my town. So, will there be a couple hundred numismatists coming to Friendswood to check all the banks and stores?

This whole thing is cracking me up!!! I wonder if CoinWorld will contact me for an interview. Perhaps I should get a publicist (anyone interested?). Maybe I can milk this for a 6 figure salary at a numismatic publication somewhere.

    lol

Yes, according to this blog, my dime is one of 96,500,000.....and it is up to $30. This is nuts.

And, I just left a comment after the article thanking Mike for writing about me, lol.

    Bob,

If you think that perhaps some of the bidders have not noticed your other one listed, you can modify your listing in the description on the first one you did, and designate that the other dime you have listed will be the first 2009 Dime scheduled for sale on eBay and will end at __:__pm on 5/28/09.

Do you think that might shift some over and get the bid up?

    I don't know....never had anything like that.

    Good luck!

If they are bagged I would think there is a fairly good chance they are NOT 09's. The Mint ships them out in huge ballistic bags and the Fed would have had them rolled and boxed at a service before they shipped them to PR. If these are in bags they are probably locally acquired coins that have been run through counters and bagged locally.

My source for the 6 2009 dimes that I have gotten is bringing me some more dimes tonight. He says that they are in rolls.

    I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope......

The rolls are old stuff. I'll look through to see if I can find any singles....

But yeah, 96 million is a boat load.

Wow man! This is insane. I just checked back in and I cannot believe my eyes.
I'm sure some people watching it are cointalk members here but certainly not 50 of us.

I'm going to add it to my watch list. But don't expect me to bid! LOL! This was an awesome experiment. Whatever you buy with the proceeds should be a special coin to remember this occasion by. You should make it your avatar and the note underneath should read, "Paid for w/ 'x' (#) '09 dimes".

People are absolutely nuts. This was an experiment, not born out of greed. (Although your auction description is a hoot! LOL) So I wouldn't feel bad about it. Nobody forced anybody to pay more than 0.10 for this. The value of ANYTHING is whatever a buyer is willing to pay.

Right now, I'd just be shopping for a nice coin with real value to spend the profits on. This is going to be legendary. lol (Yet grossly unjustified.)

If I could get ahold of some more and sell them all on Ebay, maybe I could buy that 1899 5 dollar Indian I've been admiring at the local coin shop......I'd have to sell a bunch of them to do it, but I really would like that note.

I love the idea of the avatar and the message about "bought with...." lol

Does anyone remember my guess? I thought it would go for $1.75.....I guess I was a little off....

Could somebody check population reports and see if there are any '09s graded yet? I could see a First Slabbed example exceeding even this auction.

At $37.50, this was a good buy. Although if there's no toning of any kind on it, dollars to donuts it's been cleaned.

You just dont know how excited Im getting at the prospect of getting rolls. Ive been disappointed before but so far my dad's bank hasnt failed in their word. I mean when they told him they had tons of rolls of PR quarters they delivered and now they say the have bags of 09 nicks and dimes???? Cant help it to be excited. Ill be sending a nick and dime to PCGS for grading and be the first submission. How cool would that be

Yup however that was also the case with PR quarters. The bank does not deal with boxes but rather receives bulk coins in pre-rolled bags rather than boxes.
The whole bag thing was the same way for 09 pennies that he just received. They basically told him he would have to buy the entire bag as opposed to single rolls, needless to say he had to buy the entire bag of Birthplace cents. They also informed him they have the new cents but again they must be bought by the bag
