I am upgrading to a nicer one for my type set. Any idea what I can expect to get out of this one?

That's how I would grade it. As for value? I wouldn't be surprised if it sold for $100 on ebay.

    Where are you seeing cleaned?

The lighter areas contrasted against the darker areas in conjunction with the lack of any evidence of dirt or debris in those deep surface pits lead me to suspect that the coin has been cleaned up a bit. It might have spent some time in the ground. It has at the very least been exposed to some kind of harsh environment. Is it bent or rim-damaged at all?

I agree with almost what he said. I'd say XF-40 details with a net of F-12. Its value, I would say, is around a hundred or so ;)

1814 PLAIN 4 Large Cent, there were two different varieties on the four in this year, (Plain and Crosslet) although in the lesser grades not a whole lot of disparity in the price
I agree with the posters above, as $100 sounds right to me.

Yeah, I'd call it VF-30 cleaned, environmental damage, net F-12. But I think he could easily get over $150 on ebay.

35 sharpness, heavy beatdown, net 10. I'll check Copper Quotes when I get home and get a $$$ number. And attribution.

If the coin still has enough eye appeal to net grade a F-12 then why do you value it at only $100? According to Numismedia, that coin in F-12 goes for $318.

With that damage, it can't get that high...

I would not say that with Ebay. :) And numismedia is just another estimate of what a problem free f-12 would bring. I think with those details the coin would bring more than $100 on ebay, but I would not expect too much more.

Well it won't get close to $318...
You'd have to be a fool to pay near retail, for a problematic coin! :)

It will NOT sell at that price

Start it 99 cents, free shipping, and see where it takes you

I know it wont. Thats why I have "Best Offer" up. I am looking for around $200 for it. I think I will get it.

And who knows, you might get it. But even if it sells at that price, you then have to hope that the person who bought it is happy with it when it shows up in his hand. Otherwise, you have the headache of dealing with a refund and return on your hands.

That goes for any coin you sell. But, I provide pretty clear photos of my coins so I doubt anyone will be surprised when they get it.

You probably WILL get the $200 for it, or at least $150. While it does have corrosion and the edges are messed up, the center area (which will be seen in the album) is RELATIVELY nice compared to most on the bay. As for details, I'd say at least EF-40 with a pretty good strike.
