I would think that it is a clash , but what portion of the obverse is it ,looks like the bottom portion of Washingtons neck area not the right spot for that , not sure if it is or not Jello

I don't see any other indications jello of incused images lets see what the others have to say, maybe i just don't see it. Jello is the image raised or incused? I think there just some bad scratches

Is this what your referring to, or is it something else?

Imo it just looks like a scratch to me, but you never know. The only other problem I have is: The Obverse section where that mark is, is the hair region on Washington, so I don't believe it could be a die clash, because that mark is pretty straight, and nothing in the design of the hair region is like that.

Raider I am not sure. that why I sent a copy of photos to Ken Potter maybe he can tell me what it is.
but one thing I know it is raised up and not a scratch.

Hmm it's definitely interesting, hope they get back to you. My only other guess would be it's from a die gouge.

You maybe right. I not sure what I have here but I know it is not a scratch.

I would think a die gouge would explain it I don't see any relationship with the obverse with that image I don't think it's a die clash.

  14. I believe it is die gouge.

+1 - All I see are scratches or dings.

Are the 2 "holes/depressions" to the NE of the circle area die gouges? I've seen these on many of the 2009 Alaska quarters I just searched thru. They appear on both obverse & reverse. Is the mark in the circle also a die gouge?

Those look like bag marks (coins in a bag will get dinged from other coins)

    Hi All,

It's a scratch. The reason it appears raised is that the metal that was in the scratch has been moved onto the surface of the coin.

    Thanks,
    Bill
