hey all! I picked up this bad boy on ebay a little while ago. Only cost me $42 WITH shipping. Not in that great of shape but with an ABP of $140 in my Blackbook I think I made a good buy... take a look! G-4 anyway... good enough for my first CC morgan!!!!!
Well everything is readable... Looks like a chip near the rim, although I can't tell For $42 I think you did alright, Nice Pickup, and I'm happy for you
Nice CC, but I think that it's AG, not Good. Btw the Numismedia price for a 1883 CC in Good condition is $69. Morgan Dollars NumisMedia Price Guide-Good-MS60
I agree, this coin has AG details (as the rim completely disappears on one side of the coin) and has a nasty rim ding which I think makes it ungradable. It's a cool coin, and nothing to complain about...but I don't think you got a steal. But, not a bad deal either.
In my opinion, and don't take this the wrong way, save your money... Wait until you get up in the $200's, then buy a MS63 or 64 CC Morgan It is all about quality...
Yes I know It is all alright for your first coin though..but pretty soon you'll want to upgrade, and upgrade, and upgrade some more
It's a budget thing too. Right now, if I wanted to buy a $200-$400 coin (what a nice BU Morgan CC might cost) I would probably have to wait until I was through school (2012) because I don't have the ability to generate the income right now. I can't work while I'm in school. I don't know if I would want to wait that long when I could pick up a lower grade example now.
Yep, I see what you are saying A lower grade CC can settle your coin fix, until it is time to upgrade, when you have the money of course
Exactly. Plus, a coin like this can really get you motivated. There are a number of low grade coins in my collection that really pushed me to collect. One example is my 1893 Morgan Dollar. It has a mintage of just over 300K and therefore is a expensive date. I got it when I was probably 14...but I didn't have much money. I found one at a local coin shop...it had graffiti carved onto it and had been harshly cleaned, but it was affordable for me (I think I paid $20 for it when the melt value was about $7). It was the first "key" coin I ever bought and I still have it. That coin really helped me get excited about this hobby.
motivation... Motivation is exactly what I needed. My luck hasn't been that great lately, and finding that was a great pick-me-up!
