I found this Quarter in my pocket. I felt a burr on coin on the heads side a cud? over Washington face. On the back side the leaf is deformed also just below the wing tip. the front has a line just inside the rim 5/8"long. Is this a good Find??

I think it's probably damage from circulation, but it could also be the background or even the picture making it look that way. I don't come across errors very often, so certain types of errors could look like damage from circulation, which in my opinion, error coins whose error make the coin look damaged and unattractive don't bring in as much money as the attractive or unusual looking errors (such as a copper quarter without the copper/nickel plating or an off center coin), so in my opinion, with that picture, that coin won't sell, even if it turns out to be an error, but my opinion is that it's probably a damaged coin and not worth keeping and even if it is a true error, because it looks damaged, I wouldn't buy it, even if I found out later that it was an error because it has the appearance of a damaged coin

Hey digmaster, can't really tell from the pics if its a good find or not. Maybe a closer scan can tell if so or not. Maybe you can take it to your local coin dealer and have them look at it.
And by the way, even if its not a so called true error, and it looks good to you, then add it to your collection. Because I think that collecting coins should not only be about making a quick buck, but should be done for the mere beauty, joy and fascination of collecting something unusual.
I started a collection of so called machine doubling coins which I think are very fascinating and interests me.......and that's just my opinion:eek:hya:

Can you get closer pics of both sides? I can't tell for sure what is going on with your coin but I can tell you it is not a Cud. A Cud happens when a piece of the die brakes off at the edge and leaves a high area at the rim of the coin. Cuds are always at the rim or edge of the obverse or reverse. Your high area is in the middle of the coin. Several things could cause this including post mint damage so a closer photo would help alot.

Try lightly wiping the coin on both sides with acetone. I had a similar Morgan Dollar one time and after wiping it with acetone the high parts disappeared. Here it was a thin layer of clear glue. I still can't tell much without closer pics but try this. Acetone can be bought in hardware stores and will not hurt the coin.

And be sure to get pure acetone, not finger-nail polish remover.

Don't feel dumb. As I said above, I bought a Morgan Dollar off of a dealer at a premium because of the appearance of a similar error on the reverse. I showed it to 3 error collectors who were stumped before one said to try the acetone and if that didn't change anything bring it back. That's when I learned about the great effect glue can have. Thank goodness your lesson was cheaper for you. Getting the correct answer is the main part of learning.
