This coin ran me $2,700. Satin proof Buffalo's are not cheap my any means even in the lower grades. Even in PR64, you are looking at over $1,000.

re: "is it proof or not"... To muddy the waters a little bit more, here is an 1833 half cent slabbed as a proof :

It exhibits the exact same clash marks as mine on the reverse. The photo doesn't reveal any obverse clash marks, nor any visible die cracks . They might be there, but the photo doesn't show 'em.

In any event, I prefer mine... and I got it for way, way less than proof money.

This helps us understand why the designation BN, RB, and RD isn't that important. Lehigh's coin is "only" RB. Would it be more impressive if they had designated it RD ?

Because it doesn't make Jack Squat difference what the color designation is, and this coin proves it.

If there was ever a thread that exemplifies "buy the coin, not the ______ (fill in blank)", this is it. These coins are way beyond any slab's description. Hold out for a great coin, and grab it.

I have no idea why they called that coin RB, but no buyer - or seller - is gonna care. The coin is what it is, and mojo like dat don't come cheap.
