Post pics of some of your favorite medals, tokens and other exonumia.... Here's one to start with.... :hail:
Medals depicting the past presidents. I have them but they actually belong to my friend. I keep his name attached to the box. Very best regards, collect89
Here are a few from my collection that I would say are my favorites (or most interesting): http://www.cachecoins.org/strasbourg.htm http://www.cachecoins.org/philanthropins.htm http://www.cachecoins.org/anhalt.htm All three are rather rare, one is unique.
I especially like collecting medals for many reasons, No limits or boundaries on what can artistically be portrayed... All sizes and metal types have been utilized.... Endless historical connections.. and to say nothing of in many cases their "true rarity" as compared to coins. The Pikes Peak set shown in the original post is probably unique. They are struck by the US Mint. (notice the one in the bottom right corner is marked as 2 known - I haven't seen the other yet) It came from the personal collection of Mr. Al Overton, whom many here will know as the one whose book is utilized widely to attribute bust half dollars. He lived in Colorado and heavily collected Colorado items. He had one of the largest collections of Colorado Pioneer Gold and Colorado banknotes known, besides his many other numismatic items. This Pike's Peak set came from the dealer that privately handled his estate. I was very lucky to be able to obtain it. Nice stuff guys.... keep 'em rolling.... :eat:
I like medals, but have none... I was thinking about putting together a set of the presidential spouse medals, but decided not to... Gotta save up for that gold
I have quite a large collection of medals, full size and minitures. Ranging from Roaylty through to millitery from quite a few countries. Obviously some of them such as the VC I could never afford to own so I do have a number of copies in the collection I would realy like to get a full set of WWI Victory medals together at some stage Here is one that I have from France and a unofficial British one
Here is rather nice George V corination medal and it has a lion on it LOL and a rather nice one from the corination of Edward VIII the same design was used on one for his brother as well LOL
This pales in comparison to the medals you & the others have posted but it resembles your avatar. It is the size of a Morgan dollar & feels like solid copper. I purchased it this last Sunday. Very best regards, collect89
Here is one that I earned, so since it was handed to me with a certificate, it is my favorite for being a free medal
