This is one heck of a long thread. A testament to Elaine's desire to keep everyone informed here. We do appreciate that.

Still because of the length of this thread this may ahve been discussed and I would have missed it so please forgive me if I'm just being repetitive. With the mint ending their production of American Silver Eagles making them no longer available through the mint and, it seems, no proofs at all anywhere, what are the chances of this coin taking off in value?

The 2009 Uncirculated ASE will not take off in value...
The 2009 Proof, will be another story, these will be so desirable, and there should be a super low mintage... If their price is $59.95 for each, they will sell out quick... I'm hoping they keep it with the $39.95, or whatever it was last year..
The series, of ASE's might not go up much in value, due to somewhat high mintages... I believe that the 2009 Proof, could be one of the rarest in the series, next to the 95W proof..

the proof coins for american eagle silver and gold went up strongly as compared to uncirculated bullion series. the common am. eagle gold proof pricing over 50% against bullion gold. remember the mint last selling price for gold proof and gold unc is only few dollars different.

I agree with your analysis. If they have minted any proof versions of the 2009 coin it is impossible to get already. If they haven't minted the proofs yet then it will be pretty brisk selling when they become available if there ever do.

Do you have any info on if or when the proofs are going to be minted and if they ahve been minted where they can be purchased? There are none available on ebay.

The 2009 Proof ASE's have not been minted yet, and production has been halted by the US mint, due to "shortage" of blanks
You'll see the later on in the year...
    No telling...
Maybe late, near September...October.. Might be available by Christmas

How do we know that? Where'd this 400,000 number come from?

the Mint Unc set mintages seem to be disproportionately low. Doesn't anyone buy these?

Wow, they could not have cut the 09 in half, to make room for the silver proofs?? GEESH!
Well, I guess good news for us, we get a low mintage proof ASE this year! :)

the mint may as well just issue 300,000 proof and 200,000 unc with (w) mint mark for this year american eagle silver dollars. as for the gold eagles and buffaloes. you figure out it.

based on today price of gold at over $950.00 per ounce.

2009w american buffalo one ounce gold proof - $1,260.00

2009w american eagle one ounce gold proof - $1,235.00
2009w american eagle half ounce gold proof - $631.00
    2009w american eagle 1/4 ounce gold proof - $328.00
    2009w american eagle 1/10 oz gold proof - $145.50

2009w american eagle one ounce gold uncirculated - $1,228.00

    2009w spouses gold proof - $654.00, gold unc - $651.00

2009w ultra high relief double eagle gold uncirculated - $1,339.00

what you think?. is it expensive or not?. remember the gold is only $950.00+.

on the other hand. the american eagle silver series prices remained the same. $31.95 for proof and $25.95 for uncirculated. of course they are also expensive. the silver bullion is only $14.70 as of this writing.

Thought the mint was not doing any fractionals at all...

  19. elaine 1970

    elaine 1970 material girl

the platinum and the buffalo, the w mint mark unc eagle gold fractionals were not produced by the mint.

in fact the bullion american eagle fractionals are going to produce by the mint. if not, temporary suspended only.

  20. tmoneyeagles

    tmoneyeagles Indian Buffalo Gatherer

    Mint said no more Platinum...
And they said no more fractional buffalo or AGE...

  21. elaine 1970

    elaine 1970 material girl

one ounce platinum proof will still be produce by the mint. as i said. if not, these few items might be temporary suspended. and many looks permanent.
