I am too...I have seen many notes where the series don't line up. However, looking closely at these pics I can clearly see boxes around the numbers which indicate to me the pictures have been photoshoped.
But now here is my question... Why would anybody photoshop these? Somebody could say, to sell on ebay, but right when the buyer gets it, they'll realize it ain't the same serial number...
I remember RickieB did it "to better show the signature in question" (http://www.cointalk.com/forum/t40562/). I bet if we search through images posted here we can find some interesting things and then question the authours.
It just doesn't make sense, there is no reason for doing any of that... What is the point of photoshopping a note, if you are not going to sell it, and want to know value... That is like me having a 1909 S VDB penny, in good condition, and editing it, to uncirculated condition, and saying how much is this worth? All it does is ruin the buyers perception of how much the things he/she owns is worth
RickieB is right folks. Lots of serial numbers are misaligned slightly. A bigger misalignment can actually fetch more money. I, and many others, call them rolled digits. Now I hate to say it but I think these are doctored images as well. I CAN see the rectangle around the serial number area and my eyes aren't that great. These notes have not seen wallet time for sure. Even if just the serial number is fake still nice notes worth some money. I could be totally wrong but that's my opinion and I'm expressing it.
How about this; This jokester puts up a note he has adjusted but wants to know how good of a job he has done. He submits it to this site and waits for all the defects to be discovered. The next time he improves to such an extent that he might be able to off it on e-bay. I was fooled at first too! I thought it was a beautiful note. Even with the original s/n it is a very nice note.
well... lol maybe becuase some junior high schoolers have too much time on their hands? While the notes do look to be faked, what a dream it would be to own the real mcoy lol heck, i would be estatic to own any serial 00000001 note. but i love silver certs al the more
But the person who bought it, would find out real quick that he didn't ship the same item as pictured...
For those of you who ask why someone would create a story with no chance of pulling off a profitable scam go ask pupa! http://www.cointalk.com/forum/t32242/ Richard
I'm reading this that thread right now... So far, I'm guessing granny didn't die, and he didn't get rich... This story doesn't have a happy ending, does it??
Yep took me over 2 hours, and I finished, no ending... LOL So what exactly happened there??? Did he just leave us, and go off to a beach island resort to live out his days, with hot women in tight bikinis, and drink and party all day??
Not at all methinks. He just came in to yank some chains. Did the dimes exist? Well, there were 264,000 of them minted. Problem is he never had them nor did his dear old grandmother. IF he did he could have at least put put up some fake photos. Get my drift here? I work in a coin shop TMoney. In the year that I've been there I've heard about a lot of people that have 3 legged buffs, 09-S VDBs and 55 double dies. Have yet for one to actually bring it in and show me. People are real strange at times.
Yes, people are... I don't understand it, if you don't have what you are talking about, why show it to anyone, or say anything??? You can impress me, by showing my a proof ike, versus a 1916 D merc dime, that you don't have!
There are people out there that get off on yanking your chain and sitting back and watching the results. Richard
kids, teenagers, hichschools, snot-goblers.... ect they are all alike. Imature, childish, got nothing better to do then sit in their parents basement, living off the world... they got not talents, no lives, no future.... so what do they do? they 'try' to ruins things for others. Unfortunately, CoinTalk is NOT like that We keep on rolling.
