Heritage...

I know people have bought from Heritage before, but I want to know, how your experience was with Heritage auction galleries, and would you recommend buying with them? Thanks All

I've only won a few auctions from them, but they have all been great. So I would definitely recommend them, just watch out for sales tax.

 

Yeah, being in Texas I have to LOOKOUT...
And of course BP, but they make it easy, and have in parenthesis what it would be with BP...
I have been looking at post auction buys, and seen some really nice stuff, just not sell, at near $50 under wholesale.. I saw some PL morgans I liked... And some nice busties...
Those Heritage Post Auction buys look like a great place to start buying from, and I just wanted some feedback on how people's experiences went, you know, before I buy..

 

I buy from Heritage now-and-then and would recommend them. :them: Plus, they have wonderful peeps working for them and they will go the distance to take care of you!

Heritage offer some amazing coins. If you watch closely you can sometimes puck up a deal from them.

They offer some very good auctions , but as a previous post made suggested , calculate you total potential winning bid , plus buyers premium, and sales tax. The total could make you hard stretched to recoup those added costs . Do your homework , and bid intelligently. Good luck.

If you have the ability to grade and can see the coins in-hand before auction and/or a contact who can, then yes. Otherwise, proceed with EXTREME caution -- you are swimming with sharks at Heritage auctions...sharks that are much, much more experienced than you who also have the in-hand advantage....Mike

 

p.s. the two links you sent were not auctions, but BINs with a return privilege -- that's quite a different story from "auctions" as was your original question.

Tell me, if they were such good deals, why didn't they sell the first time?

I think you will find that many/most of the coins that didn't sell the first time aren't the best coins -- but you should arrive at that conclusion yourself and not take my word for it.

Well heritage doesn't have the best pictures in the world... And that could always be a reason...
Maybe, I can take a chance and get lucky... My friends have, and they have made big profits off of the coins they have bought off the post auction buys, by selling on ebay..
People on ebay will pay near retail, while on heritage a lot of the people try to do wholesale, or under wholesale

 

First don't forget shipping - that can add another $6 or so onto a one coin win. With a low dollar coin that can eat up a good percentage of the cost. Heritage is a great place to pick up some nice coins - just be cautious.

Yes - you can make some money off heritage auctions and sell them on Ebay. Yes - they probably will sell to someone who is scared of heritage. I have had people tell me heritage coins sell for too much - what with BP and all. Then turn around and spend more than what you can get one for on heritage. One of the reasons I lose a lot of auctions on ebay I just won't bid more than for what I can get one on heritage.Why should I spend more on ebay when I can wait for one to appear on heritage and get it cheaper. This is one reason why I always tell new people to search heritage closed auctions. Mike is right - they draw some real experts. Also beware the BIN's not all of them are deals. The two you showed are just okay - but one of the coins has 0 eye appeal to me. So use heritage as a resource - and for coins they have better pictures than most.

I have thought about doing that myself - so many fools on ebay, but I don't want to deal with them. I have found several coins that went straight from heritage to ebay auctions. And yes people paid more for them on ebay. Even the crack out artists do that. There was a post on this board not too long ago about what someone should offer for a coin - well heck it just sold on heritage a few weeks ago for $1600(I think it was a bust dollar). So in some cases I look at all of the heritage auctions to see if the graded coin sold there and for home much.

I like to think we all KNOW our coins, somewhat..
Some better than others..
I think I'm doing alright, for somebody who started in July, 08'
I've learned a lot about quarter eagles (Which I own Two Of) I wrote a long thread about them, and even posted on how to grade them.. (Although, over the internet, those are hard to buy, I've bought both of mine on ebay, the AU58 was a steal, the AU55 not so much, but they are my babies)
I'm getting better with morgans, I've overpaid, on some of them, only because I wanted the coins at that time, and now I spread the word of do not chase a coin, because literally days after, the same coin, and grade, would go so much lower
I think I'm getting better at KNOWING my coins, and a big reason is people like you, hoping a young collector every step of the way...
