I was looking at a couple of shows I recorded by Shop NBC. They are charging $39.95 plus S&H for one Lincoln Log Cabin Cent in a NGC holder with no numerical grade, only BU.

For a P&D Van Buren Dollar set also in NGC holders only designated as BU I think it was $27.00 plus S&H.

Who buys these coins at these prices? What is the purpose of buying them slabbed only designated as BU? I truly don't understand this.

There are literally thousands of people out there who buy anything they see advertised on TV. I mean if you can offer to sell a small rock in a box and just because you call it a Pet Rock millions buy them - why in the world would you be skeptical that people would buy these coins ?

Doug, I always think these people must not have internet access. I'm not disagreeing with your statements, but I'm just having a hard time getting this in a proper perspective. This just seems so far out of line in pricing as well as coin collecting itself.

For many of these folks TV shows such as this are their first introduction to coin collecting. The commentators appear so knowlegable and caring that the unintiated immediately put all of their trust into them. I have a feeling that many of the people who buy from shows like this often lose interest in the hobby before they find out the true value of what they've purchased.

People buy junk everyday, they just do.

They usually have very little knowledge or the knowledge they do have is blinded by sharks in the business of separating people from their money.

$214 for an OBAMA sticker MS70 2009 ASE???
That is junk if you ask me...
Coin Shoppe just sells overpriced things... RANDOM DATE MS63 St Gaudens for $2,300??? Shoot, you could get a 65 for that money!
UHR MS70 for $3,500...UHHH..You can get them much cheaper...$1,500 cheaper..
Coin Shoppe is garbage, although I always find myself watching it... They are just fun little shows to watch, and I like it there are programs on TV about coins...Although I'd like it a lot better if they were good deals, instead of terrible junk crap deals...

I heard from an elderly person the reason she buys this junk is because the people on the phones are so nice and talk to her. Thats really what she is paying for, the product is just a bonus. I have to wonder how many people that shop there feel the same way. Really sad isn't it.

One of the supervisors at work will buy coins at actions or the TV once in a while and then show me or ask me if he got a good deal. Well he bought the colorized quarters form one of these shows and then asked me what I thought and I told him they would all ways be worth just a quarter. Since then he has never shared his coin purchases with me and his office is right next door to mine. He's definitely is an impulse buyer.
