I got $172 in face. Where did the rest come from? Obsoletes certainly don't count as large size notes...hmmmm...gotta go back and re-count I guess.
That's the way I understood it as well. I also thought I was looking for a note where the face and reverse were engraved by the same person. ...and what do you mean by "Playoff question #2"?!?
I misunderstood and divided 6295.64 by the sq root of 866 (cause I forgot about the 2 pcblic) to get the multiplier and then used the multiplier as my price.
yeah i missed the 2nd pcblic note too ... funny thin is i looked at that note several times... didnt pick up on it being listed with 2 notes Dursin.. there are several obsoletes that he mentioned in the post to count .... there is a $500 and several smaller ones
What notes did you guys get? I got FR 590, the 1st in the NY colletion. THought I was gonna be the winner
"In my collection you will find Large Size Notes including Obsoletes, Business College and Remainders." “Carefully” add up the face value of all “Large Size notes” in my collection (trust me when I say carefully) and once you have the sum, determine it’s square root! Once you have that, determine the multiple that leads you to a value of 6295.64 Once you have that, find the note in my collection that you believe was retailed for that amount! ??????? RickiB
Sorry, I somehow missed including the obsoletes. That's ok though because I would have never gotten that 'hidden note' so my numbers for 1-3 would have still been off.:headbang: Plus, even if I did get the total correct, I would have been looking for a note worth $210.98....where the same person engraved the face and the back. Anyway, since I didn't count the obsoletes (hey, they have no face value...right!), I came up with $172. The square root of that was like 13.11 so that had me hunting for a note which was worth about $480 where the same person "engraved both the front and reverse designs". That left me only 2 choices and I went with the $5 National from Troy.
I had $886, re-read the question, added again, and came up with $ 1156. which was then 34 ,and a price of $ 185. And it was all downhill from there.I was Way off. lol. I just kept drawing blanks so I then I thought maybe it was a trick question and put in the note that is the 1st place prize FR# 38 . I guess we're going to do it again. It's been a long time since I needed to do high school math. Good thing I have a calculator:headbang:...................................John
i kept coming up with 886 too (at first it was 885 since i missed 1 of the large size $1 SC). I got the root of that, and then the multiple of that into 6295.64. But i misread the next question with finding a note that retailed for that amount. Since everythig up untilt hat point was building off the previous answer, i thought this was the same, and we were to use the 'multiple' number. So i completely misread that, and all my answer after were WAY off oh-well off to question 2
