BTW, the chocolate coins line was a joke. Of course it is cheap. I'd go with a small box of godiva chocolate. For about 4 bucks you can get a box of 2 PREMIUM chocolates. But ask, as it may not be kosher for her to take something...

Being a bank teller myself I think the chocolate idea is good. We women do LOVE chocolate! Also maybe a gift card to a book store or a coffee shop. Just a couple of ideas. Your teller is nicer than me. I keep everything for myself. LOL You wouldn't want me being your teller!

 

WOW. You got an in there. What grade was the 1921? Those are great finds.

 

The '21 was in G to VG.

 

I am lucky my tellers are not collectors for sure. :thumb:

I am just establishing a relationship with a teller at another bank. He has been very, very nice. So, I talk to him saturday, and he goes out of his way to help me find some BU Washington DC rolls, and various presidential dollars and then I ask about other stuff. Then he says, "I'll save anything unusual for you from now on. Funny, a couple days ago I got in a dollar that I had never seen before. Someone else picked it up, I'll save stuff like that for you from now on."

ARRRRRGGGG. Now I'm dying to know what that was. However, how cool that he will do that from now on. AND, he knows that I don't have an account there. However, since he is doing this for me (and since he suggested that I do so), I'm going to open a minimal savings account there this week....

So what was that dollar he had never seen before......

 

If it makes you feel better, I had a teller at a National City adamently swear that the mint has discontinued all pennies and there will be no more coming out. She even "Verified" this with her manager.

 

That is actually pretty funny... I guess they really don't want anybody asking anymore!

 

Well . . . the rule I followed was not to ask any favors until _after_ establishing a relationship. As I've related in other threads, I tried to chat them up. One day I just casually asked them if they had ever seen any. 2009 Log Cabins -- they said no. That was an opening for me -- the next day I brought in a 2009 Log Cabin to show them and many of them were excited about it. Another day I brought in chocolate coins in the late afternoon (right when people crave an afternoon snack). They had never seen any Puerto Rico quarters, so I got some and told them they could have as many (at face value) as they wanted.

(I expect to get a batch of Log Cabins this or next week, and I'm going to give some away to them . . . etc.)

_Then_ you ask them for favors.

I don't see how asking for 2009 pennies is a favor...
It is a question that all people can just go up and ask...
They are a BANK... I shouldn't have to butter them up, to get things that they have... Although if it works, I might as well try it

 

"Shouldn't have to" has nothing to do with it.

Besides . . .

They work, at probably low pay, with lots of people complaining at them all day long ("what do you mean I can't cash this check!"), and people asking them to do all kinds of things ("oh, I'm sorry, I meant to deposit it in the other account, can I do it over -- and I want to take out $15, too -- can I get it in 3 $5's"). When somebody comes in and treats them as a valued _person_ instead of a servant, it'll get noticed.
