The Feuchtwanger Cent thread

Well, I am now tied with clembo; I also own two Feuchtwanger Cents. : )

I've studied the varieties enough to know most of the characteristics that set Variety 5H apart from others. Rulau's Hard Times Tokens 1832-1844 was a big help and so were the Heritage Archives.

I am glad that folks here like my new Feuchtwanger One Cent token.

After comparing mine to those sold by Heritage, an MS-67 token they sold for $4,880 over a year ago, though of a slightly different variety, seems closest in grade and appearance to mine, except that, unbelievably, mine seems like it might grade a tad better. Wow.

I think I was lucky to win such a prize. :kewl:

BTW, there are two typos in my post above. The main error is the date that Chet Krause purchased many items from the Mossin & Marr Families Collection, which was actually in 1990.

I obtained another Feuchtwanger one cent token, this one in a slab that has quite a few scratches, It must have been graded some time ago. It will see a new holder soon, I suppose an Edge-View slab.

Its identification is HT268, Variety 6I. This token is graded MS-64.

Better photos result from reducing scratches on slab

I want to send this token to NGC for a new holder and send the silvery one as well.

But I wanted to have better photos, so I went after the obverse side of the slab in an effort to diminish the effects the scratches were having on the photos. Here are the results, and and I am well satisfied with these images.

I suppose both tokens will come back in the new Edge-View slabs. I'm not sure if I like those yet; these will be my first in NGC's new slabs. I'll photograph them again after they come back. : )

Some awesome looking coins in this thread!!!! Just got my first Feuchtwanger pretty much on an impulse because I just really like the design and I thought this one looked awesome! It is an NGC MS66 HT-268(6I)

Feuchtwanger Commemorative

I thought this was of interest. While doing some sleuthing for examples and varieties, I found that the Grove Minting Company has a Feuchtwanger Proof Commemorative being offered in .999 Fine Silver. The design looks STUNNING! I asked when it might be available and got a response stating that the online store should be open for business by mid June of this year. I can't wait to get one! It's not a coin, not a token, but a proof medalet.
I believe the description "Feuchtwanger Proof" is misleading.
It's a bullion piece which seems to have a rather faithful eagle.
I wonder if the die was machine-engraved, CNC, etc.
With the price of silver fluctuating rapidly, I wonder how they will price them?
Perhaps the price will change rapidly, which might make purchase interesting.

 

I always liked the Feuchtwanger-designed eagle. Mean looking!

Alas, I do not own an example to share with you all. Someday, perhaps.

 

Other than the redbook, any other place to get values for this? Thanks in advance.

 

You could search Heritage Auctions or ebay completed auctions for general price trends.

Let me suggest that you be sure to check both.

 

Thanks for bringing this thread back up. It allowed me to add images of two more dies to my attribution guide. I now have images of all six obv dies and I am only missing three of the nine rev die images.
