Here's my first BU IHC. Any grade opinions? I know there are some spots, but they are really accentuated by the picture and the ones on the reverse are barely visible in hand. Also any value opinions? Thanks.

A beauty, love the color! Just a guess, but looks like a high AU to low MS in RB, hard to tell from the pics, but I'd lean toward a low MS from what I see.

I imagine what you paid is fair, but learn from this coin, It has been cleaned and recolored. That color is not natural to a bronze cent in mint state.

That is assuming that your pics are accurate.

Live and learn, it is still a decent coin, and if your happy thats what counts. We call this the tuition box type of a coin.:smile

Please do not take this like I am a know-it-all, but I have seen enough of those type of copper coins to know what they look like. I am not saying that you are wrong because pictures can be deceiving, it's just that I am positive that it has not been cleaned and/or recolored. And yes, it's obviously easier for me to tell because I have it in hand, but just trust me on this one.

The actual color is a natural RB tone with some dark carbon spots.

Doesn't look AT and Cleaned to me... Looks original....

I have to agree with Jack on this - based off the pictures. I also took the opportunity to highlight a couple of spots I look at when I see "uncirculated". Again all of this just could just be your pictures - the lighting has to be just right to get the correct color and to not reflect off the coin. Sometimes I think I have the right light - what I see in the camera looks like the coin - but then when I see it on the computer it just does not match. Having said that there are excellent details on the coin no matter what and has a nice strike - in my opinion. And if you are happy that is what counts.

I just saw all your posts and it is very possible that the pictures do not reflect what you have. Very possible - I have skipped posting some graded coins cause I could not capture how they looked. As I said I like the strike on the coin the feathers are very nice, the shield is a little weak - but the could be the spot on it.

Speaking of the shield can we get a close-up on the shield. It looks a little...off.

Yep - already turned down the brightness, but it still highlights that spot over the ear - which could just be the lighting. If that is not wear then I would grade this coin as a MS62(maybe 63) - the spots and the soft shield upper right hand corner, but mainly the spots. Still nice strike on the coin - that is what I would call a perfect coin for my dansco album. :)
