I just posted this on the US Coin section here and on the PCGS forum, and thought I'd put the link in here to get thoughts from you error people. There are more photos posted on the attached link.

I think it might have been desertgem, who said exactly what this reminded me of...
    A bezel...
Is this completely around the edge of the coin, or is this coin, carefully inside of something else?

Looks like a soldered on jewelry finding, makes it pretty! Makes you see real potential for new coin designs.

The reeding is part of the coin, not an added attachment or glued on. The coin should have denticals but they've been replaced or etched over by the reeding. Here are more photos, with a comparison photo of a normal Indian cent.

It looks like the "reeding" is at an angle, i.e., not straight across the edge of the coin. If the "reeding" is angled it could not be ejected from the collar. Therefore I say it is either post-Mint damage or post-Mint modification.

I think someone with artistic talent altered the coin to make the rim decorative. I think it's cool looking but I would say it's post mint.

    Hi,

It definitely was modified after it left the Mint. It is not an error. It is simply an altered coin.

    Thanks,
    Bill

I agree. This is post mint decoration. Someone put some time into making this a piece of jewelry. Maybe like a love token/gift. But I like it.

I know that IHC collectors already know about the reeded edge Patterns. For those that would like to look them up here is some info.

Nice coin but someone other than the mint did the rim work!

Yes, that seems to be the consensus, one with which I agree. I like the suggestion that it was made along the lines of a Love Token or Hobo Nickel, or by a jeweler. In any event, it is an interesting piece, and I too really like it. Thanks.
